: Everything is dead but the horn

We are driving along and all of the sudden our 67 shuts off. Last time I looked we are having a good charge on the volt meter. I mean nothing worked period but the horn. I had to get a tow home.

Then I got under the car and pulled the starter and solenoid. Had that checked and replaced the solenoid and it started right up. I replaced the ends that are on the wiring to the starter just to be safe. It started and ran fine for about 2 weeks.

Then we are heading back from the local cruise and it quit on me again and done the same thing. I coasted into a parking lot and stopped. Hit the key and it started right up. I let it idle for a bit and checked the guages and everything was normal and then it quit again. I then turned the key back off and then on again and it started up again.

I am lost on this one. This car is an original 4-speed car so there is no neutral switch involved. Could it be an ignition switch going bad, whatever it is it is there is some major juice to this wire or component to shut everything down in the car. The car is grounded good as far as continuity goes with a meter.

The dome light, headlights, dashlights, brake lights, wipers, starter or anything has juice except the horn when it does it's little thing. I am up for suggestions????

Just a guess...
Sounds like the little red wire running from the + battery post to the junction terminal mounted on the radiator support is broken. That wire then runs from that terminal to the horn relay. Supplies most accessory power.

I checked that and put a new end on it.. I might go check that again. Anybody else????

The small pos lead off the battery goes to the junction blk on support. a heavy wire runs across the support to the horn relay. from the horn relay into harness across the wheel house to the junction connector on the fire wall. this supplies all accessories in the car. if the horns work that means that it is loosing pwr after the relay. check the firewall connector. if car stalls you can jump a wire from the battery 12v to the coil to get home. points don't last long. gary

Check the connection and the fusible link at horn relay. This is where your problem is most likely at. That wire supplies power to everything except the horns. See pic

Thanks undee70ss. I will check that fusible link next to the horn relay. How would you know if it going bad if it is working normal at the moment???

A fusible link is either good or bad, no "going bad"
(same as a regular fuse)

check the firewall connector. I have seen them cause problems. they get corroded. even seen the holder start to melt. lot of current going through that conection. 3/8 sockett. gary

Maybe a bond/ground issue? I had a problem like yours and I ended up rebonding everything. I had a no start yesterday and ended up the crimp on the neg batt terminal was loose. Tightened it up and the elec fan started working again and she fired right up. Don't you love eletrical problems? :)

I might get a chance to check that bulkhead connector out tomorrow. We have never had that apart but I could see that happening though. I will check that horn relay as well.
