: Great Day at Bremerton
gotago Jun 3rd, 07, 2:02 AM Well Fellas,
Great day at the track:hurray: The weather was awesome, one TC member's car was selected as the best 60s and later in the car show(468Brian) and one TC member made it to the semi-finals in the PRO bracket (Mike S). Both cars ran on the track as well as the show. Only one guy broke anything(Darryl) but his welfare Nova had to be pushing some ponies to break a trans.
Before anyone else spins it, I was eliminated in the first round of sportsman, I missed 2d gear:mad: I had an absolute blast flogging the car and getting some much needed advice from Mike and Darryl. I'll do better next time. Below are some pics of our day. One is of the TC crews cars (L to R 66SSFan's 70, brettd85's 68 Elky, FRYNTYR's Nova, loader1's 67, and my 69,) and the other is Darryl after he learned his tranny was kaput.
It was an awesome day.
WE GOTTA DO THIS AGAIN:yes:

Cool Mark,
Thanks for sharing. The weather was Great too!
kettbo Jun 3rd, 07, 2:09 AM Gents,
Earlier when I was at work, the guys called me from the Bremerton Drag Strip...big event, lot of people there, good racing. "Hey George, ya hear that?" Zoooooom background noise as someone made a pass at Bremerton....
I have been working a lotta hours but not working hard.
Worked today...until 1430. Came home, ran errands that keep piling up. Neither the Elky or the Vette are drag strip ready but working to get one or the other ready for later this year. Worked more on the 68 RatVette. Between today and last PM, she's doing pretty good.
BTW, my timing tape would not stick to the balancer. I transfered some of the marks. Looks like my distrib has about 26 degrees mech adv even with the bushing on the pin. Right now I have it set 14 deg on the crank, gives me 40 (too much). 16 deg would put me way over the top at 42 degs....
The Vette's 432" Rat likes 16-18 on the crank. I must get my distrib worked on. I'm running a vintage Vette tach drive distributor with Pertronix conversion. All the adv is in by 2500. I also cleaned-up the garage quite a bit. When I got done was nearly 1700...kinda late to go...and pick up the kids at 2000...so was down a bit....feeling left-out of all the fun.
Just then, from down the road, I hear the sound of an approaching muscle car.....very loud! It is my bud ART from the Schuck's Auto Parts Warehouse. He's the speed shop manager. I'd given him my address and a map nearly two months ago...now he shows up. Great to see him, cheered me right up. His blue 69 Camaro has the 383 stroker, lots of compression, big cam, Brodix heads, think about $4000-$5000 worth of Mouse in all, TH400 w/ high stall, 9-Inch Ford 3.9s, race suspension and full cage. He runs 10.8 in the quarter mile, owned the car since 1973. Sounds much like the Berg Chevelle. We sat and BS'd, had a brew from my rather extensive holdings. He liked all the BBC stuff and parts I've gathered.... We went for a ride in the Vette. He likes it mucho. Recommends distrib work and those headers... We then went out in the Elky,,,,,not impressive at all after the Vette and Art says we'll play with the Carb a bit..more squirt and play with the secondaries. Art got one of those phone calls, overdue at home.....so I didn't get a ride in his Camaro. Next time for sure. He left some rubber out front.....his Camaro launches HARD.... BTW, he's willing to loan some 'street tires' to me to take out Brett and later Ben.....
Anyway, great to have him stop by...made my day.
So, how was the event in Bremerton? Saw Darryl blew the trans...need details. How did everybody run?
George
gotago Jun 3rd, 07, 2:30 AM I'm glad the sun was out so they could use the sundial to measure my time! Mike ran high 12s and I think Brian was somewhere around the 12 too. I couldn't hook and the fastest I could get her to go was 15.9. Mike and Darryl are working on me to get sticky meats, Darryl says 14s, I say grenaded Muncie.
Sorry you had to work, I saw what Brett is putting together and all I can say is the young gun is calling you out and you better be on your game:)
We havta do that again. I don't think I'm gonna race until I have some more tree time. The test and tune at Bremerton is great, lotsa runs for cheap and the track is beautiful.
Sounds like you guys had a blast. I got extra slicks you can borrow Mark :)
Dang, I really wanted to go, I just gotta stop spending all My car car budget on part's and start driving it. I really need to get a loop, bolt on My Hoosier's ,and get a time on it. I'm dying to know what it will run.
Well, look's like Ya'll had a good time, and the damage ain't too bad. Except for TRANSFRYER, but I'm pretty sure He already has a plan.:D
FRYNTYR Jun 3rd, 07, 3:06 AM I'll dig into the trans Sunday. Made a few phone calls and Roger (had the red tubbed 69 at Smokey oint) said the T-350's usually snap the input shaft, not the output shaft. SAid it likely snapped and pushed everything back so that may be why the park lock wouldn't work.
He had a trans done at the same time I did (same builder) but had the hardened input shaft added and offered it's use to me if I wanted the welfare nova back on the road right away. I think I'll just take mine and have it upgraded with some higher end parts to handle my HP. My luck has finally run out and i've found the limitation on what I can get out of a trans rated for 450 HP.
If it wouldn't have broke,,,,she would have carried to wheels biggtime....that track was sticky today. Motor was running a bit better with the fuel system change so I'm bummed I never got the chance to test the top end. My gut feeling was that it was fixed and some new low ET's would have happened. Darn,,,,maybe next time!
Mark,,,,,glad you had fun. Doesn't matter what times a person runs, it's how much fun they have. The need for speed will force one to increase one's HP on a continueous basis.....Sorry,,,,but you're hooked.
Mike,,,awesome job. I was proud to stand with your family and watch you take down so many cars. You the man!
Brian, your heavy chevy ripped. So close to dipping into the 11's,,,ahhhhhh! Sweet ride by the way.
Oh ya,,I don't know about you all, but I got cooked today.......lobster like when I got home. Wife was laughing at me.
FRYNTYR Jun 3rd, 07, 3:11 AM Well, look's like Ya'll had a good time, and the damage ain't too bad. Except for TRANSFRYER, but I'm pretty sure He already has a plan.:D
TRANSFREYER,,,,,,hmmmm,,,,,,,I like it. :D
kettbo Jun 3rd, 07, 3:42 AM Darryl,
Sorry you lost the trans! To get you back on the road muy pronto there are several options.
#1
I have a solid TH350 in my Elky.
You can use it if I can borrow one of your Muncies or s Super T-10 and related hardware!
ok, you might not like that idea, let's go to option #2
#2
I have a solid TH350 in my Elky. You've been in my Elky
I have a TH400 short-shaft under my bench.
IF we can source a driveshaft in the right size with TH400 yoke to work in my Elky, I'll sponsor your ride with my TH350. You'd naturally get to help with the transplant.
#3
You could borrow my TH400, beef it as needed for your race car...
You'd need a shorter driveshaft and to move the X-member back and different yoke
GOTAGO,
When you mentioned stuff Brett was doing, were ya talking BBC stuff? Think So. If I wanted a wicked 454 to brutalize people, I'd just go build one. My only goal with the 454 is to edge Ben and have a good running Elky.
Gotta work 1/2 day tomorrow.....
Garage is looking pretty good.....
BBC stuff from when I took the block to Darryl's is all consolidated. ART liked the stuff I got from Darryl. Need to buy bearings, gaskets, oil pump, timing set......and decide on the cam
modest 228/238 .540/.540" 114 LSA
aggressive 238/248 .540/.540" 112 LSA
mondo VOODOO or similiar cam 235/245 550/570 territory
I gotta live with this, my daily driver.....lets hear your .02 everyone
Also liked my budget crank from 66SSFan
flink69SS Jun 3rd, 07, 12:41 PM Sounds like you all had a blast...:hurray:
I will surely make it next time when things aren't so crazy.
Darryl- Are going to make it out to Monroe on the 8th? I am planning on trying out the Chevelle on the track for the first time...
I am not sure if I will have time to get that 4* advance I need but we'll see what happens.
FRYNTYR Jun 3rd, 07, 1:01 PM Sounds like you all had a blast...:hurray:

No, I won't make Friday. I'm on second shift right now plus I have to work next weekend because I took this weekend off. To much other stuff to do right now so I don't anticipate the nova being ready to run again until First week in July. At least i'll get the trans pulled and over the the tranny guy.
gotago Jun 3rd, 07, 1:43 PM Sounds like you guys had a blast. I got extra slicks you can borrow Mark :)
Thanks Jeff, I'm snooping around for some stuff now. I have the SS rims I took off the front of the car with some good tires that I have to do some tradin' with. Mike says he's got some video of me hazing the tires through the 60' beam, gota cure that. I got a good "block of instruction" from Darryl on how to do burnouts with 3 pedals and 2 feet so I'll have to find a place and practice:) . The car has a lot more in it, I just have to learn to drive. I should have never missed 2d gear two times in a row, my shifter isn't a year old yet. Must check the linkage and adjustmet stops again.
It was awesome to watch Mike run, he took out the 6 time track champion off the tree in the quarter finals. I think his car was the only stick shift in the bracket. I learned a lot just watching.
kettbo Jun 3rd, 07, 5:47 PM Mark,
N Gate security guy has 69 Red Nova with 14" 1969-70 SS wheels.
I'll ask if he's interested in your wheels for his 68 Nova under construction.
George
loader1 Jun 3rd, 07, 8:46 PM Hey everyone,
Just got in and unloaded. Didn't run the car today, momma was burned and worn out from the sun, so I just went over and loaded up.
:hurray: Man, what a fun day Saturday with an absolutely fantastic group of people! Besides the power of the "Glove", the TC karma must have been helping me focus;) , and the car was consistent for me run after run.
Mark got to experience friday night's TNT, where you could make as many runs as you could stand. We got to work on his techniques and mine since neither one of us had been out in a while. He was fighting traction, and I was learning to run a new combo.
Darryl is a drag racing guy's dream to have in your pit, and I really wish that the nova wouldn't have broke. But since it did, he was right there after every run through the eliminations with invaluable input on how to think about the next round and we were almost thinking the same thing every time. Meaning, when I went to the line, I wasn't preoccupied with second guessing myself. All that besides being such a quality person:thumbsup: .
HeavyChevy72 Bryan's car is awsome and he definitely the recognition he deserved in the car show. Ran 12.30s I believe. Glad I got to put a face to the name.
Was glad to get to see Mike Parker again and check out his new 70. I always enjoy talking to him but man, where's that 66?
And Brett was there laying a trap for George, boy is he in trouble. Think I saw secret preparations that I'm not at liberty to discuss.:noway:
Mark and I will probably be seeing each other at Bremerton for TNT nights since it is a good location for both of us to get to. If not then, at least we'll have to meet at the A&W if for no other reason than to pass the (secret) disc. Besides he's fun to hang out with, and being one of America's Finest, I hold him in highest regards. Mark got the fire, but he needs some TIRE! Darryl worked on him and so did I.
Anyway, I'm glad those of you who had not been to Bremerton before got to see what an excellent track it is and how beautiful the location is.
Thanks to all of you who stayed and watched to the end!
Now I'm going to figure out how to post the videos that we took with Aaron's camera. There are 20+ minutes and I have watched it several times. Also there are 47 photos, many of all in attendance, so I'll figure it out as quick as possible.
FourEightyNine Jun 3rd, 07, 10:14 PM Sounds like you guys had some real fun. I should have went but decided to work on the chevelle so I can have it ready to go to the exhaust shop.
gotago just to let you know that wasnt me in the semi-finals.
Anybody gona be going out on the 15th? Im gona be out there shooting for 11s. Might have to try the transbrake out.:hurray:
kettbo Jun 3rd, 07, 11:31 PM LOADER1,
Nice summary! Thanks! Like a little meat in the letters......full-up beef stew here!
OK, GOTAGO mentioned the kid's preparations. Now you mention it.
Did he go buy a new car? That would have helped him a lot! :hurray:
I know he has the TKO
I know he has the 3.73
And I know his 350 huffs and he blows about as much air as my daughter's hair dryer.:boring:
This is the race I'm talking about. Heck, maybe I should let my 17 y/o daughter do the driving for this race so Brett can add "Beat in a drag race by a girl" to his portfolio. Reminds me, cooled off here so gonna go try GOTAGO's buffer on the tailgate....make it look nice and 'purty' for Brett, 'cause that's all he's gonna be seeing.
Perhaps LOADER1 you are talking a BBC race vs Brett.....
What, did he bring all his BBC parts for Show and Tell?
Heck, I'm the guy turning him on to all the deals...pistons and rods, fully ported BBC heads....next thing he'll be wanting me to put the darn thing together for him. My Rat has to be daily driver, goin in my Daily Driver Elky. My BBC race is vs AHSOM Ben. If I had another car...then could do the mega-mega routine to run with the bigger dawgs. I'd be pleased to go 13.0 with my low-buck Charity Rat.
BTW, what's wrong with you and GOTAGO....
1. As mature fellas, you are talking trash for that young upstart
2. You are SOUTH SOUNDERS not North-Enders like Brett
3. Active Duty and Prior Service guys assisting that civilian with propaganda.....
You should be adding to that kid's discomfort!!!!
BTW, got some sympathy from the wife...she's sad for me I couldn't get out there to Bremerton..... Now to just move some money around to buy goodies to make the Meeno race-worthy....
66 Buick Special Jun 3rd, 07, 11:36 PM Come on George, use that lil' lady's sympathy to buy some goodies!
Dave Jun 3rd, 07, 11:48 PM Work It, George, Work It.:disco:
loader1 Jun 3rd, 07, 11:53 PM I'm working on the video thing, might have to import a youngin.:D Naw can't do that, he's way up north.
George, I'm just saying that you need to understand the importance of attending these things, after all, we were DRAGRACING. Ya know, talkin' power and all the tricks that you could use to wup that pup. He's putting in the time, laying the trap:yes: .
Brettd85 Jun 4th, 07, 12:16 AM I had alot of fun at Bremerton. Learned lots of stuff, and enjoyed hangin' with the fellas. Met a couple new TC members and prepared for more big block purchases. I even got a short ride in a beautiful 67 with a 375 396ci. Was well worth the long ride down, but my neck is a little burned. I'm officially a redneck. You shoulda been there George, another guy to BS with is always a plus.
Man George, you need to get some new material... (polished tailgate) :boring:
I think most people on this forum, whos names I wont mention, know whos got odds here. Everyone wants to side with the winner. Facts are far different from propoganda! Sounds like your getting a little worried with the lack of support, hmm?
Sure, I will race your daughter. Bring the older one out too! Are you sure you want to let me near them? The Camino is a babe magnet! :p Girls also love winners, and guys who are hated by their fathers. Jeez, Im badass. :D
Mike, if you need help with the video I would be happy to give aid.
Brettd85 Jun 4th, 07, 12:22 AM One more thing Georgie-boy, we better get this race planned as I am going to have to pull my engine soon. I am thinking within the next 3 weeks because I will need my flywheel to get the rotating assembly balanced. If you wanna dilly dally and keep polishing your tailgate and bumper then I understand. You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk? If your too "busy" for the race, you can use me and removing the engine as a scapegoat for it never happening.
66SSFan Jun 4th, 07, 1:06 AM Ben's gotta be love'n this, with all the race excitment about george and brett the heat is off ben? He might be scared to run too fast and peal off that new paint!
It was a great time saturday, good people - racing - cars - weather, could'nt ask for more. It was a pleasure to meet everyone again and hang out with Mikes family.
Mike, as soon as I figure out my disc brake problems I'll bring the '66 out for the friday night tnt. I only hope to run as consistant as you.
RAMBO Jun 4th, 07, 1:11 AM Sounds like you all had a blast...:hurray:
I will surely make it next time when things aren't so crazy.
Darryl- Are going to make it out to Monroe on the 8th? I am planning on trying out the Chevelle on the track for the first time...
I am not sure if I will have time to get that 4* advance I need but we'll see what happens.
Frank- If its not raining- I'll be there!
I'm not much for giving engine advice, but i'll run witcha anyways! :)
I've been jonesing for too long about running this car- and I think I'm ready now! I'll put in the Catch can & batt hold down and pick up a cheap helmet up at bent bike this week, and I'll be ready to rock!
:)
kettbo Jun 4th, 07, 1:26 AM LOADER1,
I fully understand the importance of attending events, I'll for sure be at the next event. I enjoy the company, sharing ideas, training. The Elky has come up a lot in the year I've had it....more to go. And I know ya learn a lot more by switching the RT to RECEIVE ONLY than TRANSMIT. I'm kinda hoping Brett figures this out at some point. That young pup keeps opening his c*ckholster. :o I just want to bring him along...make sure he does nothing unsafe or lame-brained :clonk: See the next thought here......
Brett,
Your 350 flywheel is internally balanced.
The 454 flywheel you need is externally balanced.....
Therefore my young pal, pulling your 350 to get the flywheel to balance your rotating assembly will do you no good. Unless of course you like buying a lot of Mallory Metal for a custom internal balance set-up.....
So once again, I'm pulling your butt outa the fire there Brett.
Who loves ya baby?:D
Will have to talk to ART Tues at work, figure out the minimum stuff I gotta output $$$$$ for to get the beast through tech. Also gotta see my bud Rick about the chassis etc.
Lack of support? Na, not worried. I'll get the truth from GOTAGO tomorrow. If the streets are dry, instead of the back road test, will simply go to the freeway onramp for some WOT.
Heck Brett, I'd be thrilled if you beat me. I'd even buy a beer. I'm really hoping that the mud-slinging brings out a few good points and makes for an enjoyable afternoon. BTW, I like HEFEWEITZEN.
Brettd85 Jun 4th, 07, 1:36 AM My flywheel came with a weight for an externally balanced engine. It is just held on with 2 bolts. I kept it just in case!
Who loves ya baby? :D
gotago Jun 4th, 07, 1:38 AM Alright that's it, with all the go fast talk goin' on I better get some things done. Who's got a set of drag radials to trade for some SS rims and tires? The drive shaft loop goes in tomorrow!! I better get dialed in before the kid gets his rat together and George finally gets off work and smokes me. Ain't worred about Ben, all I have to do is say "Is that a scratch?" right before we stage and I got him, at least for now. Already tried Mike and we were side by side.....until the third yellow lit and then he was gone, all I remember was this red streak way out in front of me. Darryl scared me even on the trailer!
C'mon the rest of ya, lets go racing:D
Mike, I knew I'd get in trouble hangin' out with you:yes:
If I unplug the back two cylinder's, can I get in on this?:D

Yea Mike, get that '66 out here. What else do you do with 4.10s?
George, givin' you a bad time. You haven't been around me enough yet:p Geez, sometimes I crack myself up. You gotta make it to the A&W next time!
FRYNTYR Jun 4th, 07, 1:50 AM My 28-10.5 slicks are available for use for a few weeks until the Nova is ready to rip some pavement again. 8 inch rims with 5 inch backspacing.
loader1 Jun 4th, 07, 1:57 AM Nice name change Darryl. That really bummed me out. Wanted to see you GO! Hey, how's the lobster head doin' tonight?
Yup, just saw the name, that's cool.
kettbo Jun 4th, 07, 2:00 AM re Brett's flywheel,
Brett, good that you have a fancy-pants flywheel and the bolt-on weight.
I may be pressed pretty hard if you make your move in 3 weeks....heck, I've worked every day since the 21st with only a few afternoons off early and several days stretching into the evening. I worked 7:30---3pm today too. Upkeep chores today, big grocery run on the way home. No full day off in sight. I've not lifted a finger to complete the remodel stuff until tonight....installed the correct door for the spice pullout rack. Upkeep of this place is amazing. I'll be off for the daughter's HS grad next SAT...had to call in a few favors for that.....2nd try for wifey's ankle surgery is 16 JUN....
I'd think you'd want to do a mock assembly before sending your stuff out to get balanced..... Who is gonna bore the block and other work? Decide on a cam yet?
If ya can't wait for slow ol me to get my **** in gear for a Elky Mouse vs Mouse championship, I understand your desire to get the BBC going. You could wait til the fall til the 454 comes together for RatMeeno w/Charity Rat or maybe take a crack at RatVette. She's running pretty good again. Not a race car but a stout street cruiser able to go to Montana. So long as my Elky has the Mild Mouse, I suppose I could pick on BUICK SPECIAL Greg.
Ben,
Yup, the heat is off you for the time being. I've stirred-up a hornet's nest.

Like I said I haveta go faster!!
Darryl, thanks, I just may take you up on that at the next TnT we go to. I still have to train up for the burn-outs but I'd like to at least try a set of stickys just to see how much of a difference it makes. Really like to get a lot faster than what I'm doing now.
George, I ain't saying anything but they say for every 100 pounds lost you gain a tenth. Brett's kinda thin and if you want, I'll run the airfield with you in the mornings:)
gotago Jun 4th, 07, 2:07 AM gotago just to let you know that wasnt me in the semi-finals.

FRYNTYR Jun 4th, 07, 2:09 AM Nice name change Darryl. That really bummed me out. Wanted to see you GO! Hey, how's the lobster head doin' tonight?
Ya bummer, at least I had a good attitude considering the circumstances. I was looking forward to showing you guys some wheels up action out of my beater.
I'll be ready for a redo first week in July. Where are we going????
Spent some more time outside today to add to my burn. Pulled the 68 chevelle outside and nearly completed the interior. Carpet, console, belts, window felts, rear view mirror, post trim, and the buckets all complete. Just have the back door panels and back seat and it's done.
Got a bit warm so I went inside the shop for a bit and surveyed my plan on some certain people's bbc parts. Started playing for about an hour and a half on one block. Hmm, which one?
FRYNTYR Jun 4th, 07, 2:12 AM Ok, you can play...........

ohhh god that made me chuckle. :D
kettbo Jun 4th, 07, 2:24 AM LOADER1,
I really DO appreciate you putting the pressure on me.
Saw where Darryl changed to TRANSFRYR, heh, heh. I know he's a bit upset about this.... Not nearly as mad as I was, 1979, when my 68 Nova's 427 had a rod start knocking..... quite the 1st car w/4.56, th400 and say 500 of L-88 cammed mayhem on tap. YaHOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo.
Mark, GOTAGO
Were you talking about me taking your Chevelle out with RatVette or the 350-powered MEENO? During testing with Art yesterday, she was not impressive, seemed to be holding back. I put premium in her this afternoon. With encouragement from Christine, I floored the go-pedal at 20 mph. Elky dropped into first, broke the tires loose, little fishtail, I hit second at 6000 and the elky was falt moving. OK, it is only a 350 in an Elky but the gear change, more tuning...really paying off. Christine said this was not at all the same car! She said I sure knew what the Elky needed to wake it up. Makes ya feel GOOD when gearhead daughter says stuff like that. She said I can't do this to the old lady...would kill her. I might even throw in some 104+ for whatever event I run..... I figure give her what she wants..... somewhere around 9.75--10:1 CR, better fuel would be a good idea.
kettbo Jun 4th, 07, 2:35 AM re 100# = 1 tenth
OK Mark, HHHHHHHhhhhhaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha
I'll play your silly game.....we'll have to do that airfield thing some day....or would you like to go ruckin?;) Basketball? Shot-Put? M-4s at 300m? Its all good!!!! I'm not some scrawny kid for sure....
What I use, when it's time to get serious.

I was glad you hung around so I could grill you for some free advice. Next time I go I'll spin her up a lot more than I did. I also think I'll swap at least one spring out so the advance comes in a little quicker.
Shelton has a TnT the 6th of July. I've not been there but Mike says they had timing problems last year. I'm happy with Bremerton, just have to have enough notice so I can borrow the trailer.

Me and basketball are like oil and water. All my weapons have real good optics because there ain't no second chances, we'll have to go to the range sometime. I have something I think you'll like;)
You're right, its all good!! I'd rather do 16oz curls with you after a day of racin'. I think you can crash at the track, I saw a bunch of motor homes and some tents there.
flink69SS Jun 4th, 07, 12:33 PM My 28-10.5 slicks are available for use for a few weeks until the Nova is ready to rip some pavement again. 8 inch rims with 5 inch backspacing.
Darryl- I'll take you up on those if my new Sportsmans go up in smoke.
Brettd85 Jun 4th, 07, 1:20 PM I may be pressed pretty hard if you make your move in 3 weeks....heck, I've worked every day since the 21st with only a few afternoons off early and several days stretching into the evening.
You guys hear this?!?! :noway: Here come the excuses....
George, have you heard about Mike's huge winnings? I think he said something about retiring and living off his race career. Also a cockey fella had some interesting words to say to him right before the last race, the lucky glove just wasnt enough that time...
George, I ain't saying anything but they say for every 100 pounds lost you gain a tenth. Brett's kinda thin and if you want, I'll run the airfield with you in the mornings:)
Maybe you really should have your daughter race for you!?
Started playing for about an hour and a half on one block. Hmm, which one?
Darryl, you can't do this to us! I wont say whos block you should work on first. However, I would be happy to say that SOMEONE is a little more serious about getting the needed parts. SOMEONE seems to be taking their time. "Hmm, which one? "
I'm sure you made the right decision. ;)
kettbo Jun 4th, 07, 3:16 PM Brett,
Yes, Darryl is finishing my block.
All things in time. Regrets I'm not able to devote adequate time and sufficient money to your satisfaction. Heck, I've had RatVette 16 years and there is still more stuff to do. I'll have regular hours this fall after the camp, some scheduled time off...early release for Test and Tune evenings. Right now, my accountant/wife is after me 24/7 to be thrifty. Hate to say it, but with Daughter off to college, my checks go straight into the college war fund. I'm trying to make things happen on a budget that only accounts for scheduled maint. If all goes well, get permanent employment status this fall, much more mad money. Wifey is after me to make the car PRESENTABLE and Water-Tight and I wanna make it go faster....
But, like Ben, time for me to make my car "safe" enough to pass tech and take my car(s) to the track. Besides....later this summer the SBC could get "hurt" making good reason to swap in the BBC I'll have done by them.
So, are ya gonna build your engine at Darryl's?
FRYNTYR Jun 4th, 07, 3:19 PM Brett,

Hey now,,,,that's my game to get new parts! Don't be moving in on my strategy, I have a patent on that....just think of the beefy trans I get to have now so I don't blow it up again..
You beat Me to that qoute.
Brettd85 Jun 4th, 07, 3:42 PM Thats a good technique George/Darryl. However, I am going to try to sell my 350 in a running condition. I will be building my engine at Darryl's unless he gets to tired of me. He and I both know that without a helping hand I'm bound to screw up. If it were just me, the engine would probably come out as a one of a kind chevy 7 cylinder flathead with 3 valves per cylinder... :clonk:
kettbo Jun 4th, 07, 6:32 PM Ya know Brett, I'm undecided what to do with my future "spare" 350.
Always nice to have a known "runner" tucked-away in the corner of the garage. If you do go to sell the engine, you'll get way more for it by advertising it while it is in the car...give rides to potential buyers. Only pull the engine when the buyer shows up with the cash or a non-refundable deposit and firm pick-up date. Think/hope I could get $800 for my 350 with the heads I have on it, carb to pan.....this would recoup a large portion of new engine expenses.....in fact, this would pay for ALL my new parts.....
cam, lifters, and timing set
gaskets
bearings
anything I need to do to the heads.....
balancing
3310 Holley conv to rear mtr blk (PV blocked) jetted 74/84 and rebuild kit
misc brackets
new water pump
oil pump and pick-up
bolts I need to get.
Think I'll only need ARP Main bolts
I need the engine in the car to get to work...minor problem. And, as a daily driver, EVERYTHING HAS TO BE DONE, and done right, over one weekend.

Ugh, that sounds risky and stressful. If you need a hand, I would be happy to help. I already have a potential buyer for the 350. I will be listing it for sale soon here, and yes I am leaving it in the car until sold.
72_Heavy_Chevy Jun 20th, 07, 2:24 AM Nothing like seeing killer cars and racing too. I think my best run was 12.11 that day. Not sure how but I took home a trophy for best 60's or newer. Here are some pics from the 07 show.
