I've removed the entire full quarter from my 69 Chevelle except the section that attaches to the roof. At this seam it appears the quarter is sandwiched between the inner structure and the roof with spot welds and then welded on the ends. Does anyone have any tips on how to remove this without damaging the roof section?

Drill out the spot welds just enough so the roof is loose and use a cutoff wheel to gring away at the corner.
Once you have the roof removed from the 1/4 panel you can bend that up getting it out off the way. Then you can take that cutoff wheel and grind away the rest of the spots welds that hold the 1/4 to the inner.

Isn't bending up something with such compound curves (it also bends 90 degrees aroung the rear window) going to cause a lot of distortion in the area?

My 67 Had the quarters spot welded on the inside of the inner structure. I drilled them out and bent the small piece of metal structure brace a little to get the rest of the top quarters out.

Were not talking bending up a 3ft section all you need to do is bend up that lip. Once the 1/4 is off you can easily correct it, plus all you need to bend is hidden once you relead the seam or apply filler.

Eric,
Sorry, I was just a little gun shy. I did exactly as you said and it went fine. Thanks for the advise.
