The local performance shop told me that I could get a brand new crate 350 for 1600 + 150 core charge. I don't think that this is a bad price considering that it includes the heads, and the only thing I would have to do is put on my intake, carb, and exhaust. My question is, should I buy the new engine or rebuild the original stock motor? The rebuild kit for 350 is about $500 if I reuse a few things like the crank, the kit to stroke it out to a 383 would be an extra $400, and the machine work will be about $500 in either case. Neither of these rebuild kits includes heads, I would have to reuse the stock ones, or the Camel heads (with accessory holes) that I have. The only problem with the Camel heads is that they are rusted and I don't know what kind of work would need to be done to them.

I went the new crate motor route. Comes with a warranty from GM. I bought from Summit. No core charge, and the sale price too.

for a stock rebuild kit you cant beat northern auto. complete kit is about $160 including cam, lifters, pistons, etc. Im not knowledgable enough, but I would think you'll end up with about the same as the crate motor for less money, as long as your motor is rebuildable. They have upgrades also. jim
