Hello,

I'm Attempting To Swap Out A Std Dash (sweep) In A 71 Malibu For A New "ss" Dash With Full Gauges. I've Yarded Out The Old Unit And Ready To Install The New One. I've Purchased All The New Hardware, Dash, Gauges, Printed Circuit, pad, Etc. However, Now I'm Getting Conflicting Advice And Info As To What Is Required To Wire This Whole Thing. Is There Available A "conversion" Harnness To Adapt The Original Harness For Use With The New Stuff Or Am I Obligated To Buy A Complete New Dash Harness Designed For The "ss" Dash With Gauges? Also,
Will I Need To Replace The Engine Harness And Headlight Harness As Well?

Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

Thank You.

Jerry

If you do a search you will find tons of info on this subject.
Short answer is you will have to a dash harness new or used for gauges. No conversion harness available.
The only mods needed under the hood are to add the 2 ammeter wires and change out the temp sender for gauges. Year one Temp Sender part number is 9520N.

For the ammeter wires use 16 gauge wire with 20 gauge fusible link. From Engine side Firewall connector DT run wire to horn relay power terminal. From Engine side Firewall connector DS run wire to junction block just in front of the battery.

Steve,

Thanks For The Info. However, I'm Not Sure What You're Referring To With The Terms "dt And "ds". Are They The Two Terminals On The Back Of The Gauge ? My Amp Gauge Has No Markings Next To The Terminals. Also, My Wiring Under The Hood Has Been Somewhat "remodeled" Before I Bought The Car, So I'm Not Sure As To What The Juction Box Is. What Other Wires Are Going Into It ?
Thanks Again For Your Info. I'm Somewhat Of A Novice As Far As Auto Wiring Goes, But I'm Learninbg Fast.

All The Best Steve !
