Ive been trying put a steel gear part#29416 on my comp 9000 the gear is half drilled from mallory they say put on shaft and drill have tried titainium bit carbide and cobalt from cord to a drill press nothing seems to work. Summit tech said the alloy hardening on my gear must be wrong. They sell them all the time no one has trouble drilling them. Any idea's ? graemlins/clonk.gif

Use lots of lube, take it easy. Be sure you have the correct spindle speed.

I drilled mine with an el cheapo Craftsman bit that was used and abused. I think maybe your gear is too hard.

I'm really curious why Mallory would expect you to drill the gear at all? What is the advantage to a home-drilled gear, versus one properly machined at the factory?

Thanks for the responses Mallory wrote back and said some gears were over hardend and they are imposible to drill. There sending me a new gear.
