Hey y'all

In my 68' currently got 383 stroker with WEIAND street blower.

I'm came across a 2001 LS1 5.7 block, its very nice, just redone.
This is the info given to me about it
"LS1 MOTOR, YEAR 2000, MOTOR HAS BEEN DECKED, BORED & TORQUE PLATE HONED 0.010" OVERSIZE, NEW ACL 10.5:1 PISTON & RINGS, CRANKSHAFT POLISHED & BALANCED WITH RODS & PISTONS, NEW KING MAIN & BIGEND BEARINGS, NEW CROW DOUBLE ROW TIMING CHAIN SET, NEW CROW SUPERDUTY PUSHRODS, NEW ROLLER LIFTERS, NEW CROW HIGH PERFORMANCE VALVE SPRING SET, NEW CROW HIGH PERFORMANCE TOURING CAM, HEADS PORTS CLENED UP, VALVES REFACED, SEATS CUT, NEW EDELBROCK CARBURETED PERFORMER RPM LS1 INTAKE MANIFOLD WITH ELECTRONIC TIMING CONTROL MODULE THIS PICKS UP MAP, CRANK POSITION, CAM POSITION & DRIVES THE STOCK COIL ON PLUG IGNITION SYSTEM WITH THE PROPER IGNITION TIMING (NO COMPUTER NEEDED TO RUN MOTOR) GREAT FOR RETRO FIT INTO MUSCLE CAR OR BOAT,NEW STATER MOTOR, ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN STARTED SINCE REBUILD, SHOULD BE AROUND 400 HP"

From what I'm told this all aluminum block is almost 400 pounds less weight then my current SBC. I like the idea of no distributor either.

My question is, does anyone know if this will bolt right into the motor mounts? What about the tranny? Got a TH350 with a 2500-2800 RPM stall converter.

Could I pull off my blower and bolt it to this motor, is it built to handle a blower?

its lighter but not by 400 pounds.....and i dont think the blower will fit, but the lsx motors are very potent N/A too

it will go in there, but you will have to get a few things. i just put an ls1 in my 65 el camino. you will have to get motor mount relocation mounts, swap headers(or you might be able to use stock manifolds), and probably have to buy an oil pan. i bought the moroso swap pan. heres a few pics of my project.

you can run your th350, but you will either have to buy a flex plate spacer kit or buy an ls1 to th350 stall. most converter companies are making the th350/th400 swap converters. i am running an art carr th400 with a continental ls1 4000 nitrous stall. the ls1 i am running is a heads and cam motor and i know with cam only it made 390hp to the ground through a 4l60e w/3500 stall, 3.73 gears and hoosier qtp 26x11.5x15 with only 15psi in them. also look here for more info http://ls1tech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28

The 2000 engine is iron block, alloy heads.

greybeard thats good to know. I've also come across an 06 6.0 LS1 motor out of a GTO.
SMAX, where can I get those motor mount relocation brackets?

Are you sure about that? My brother's 2002 is all aluminum.

As far as I know only truck blocks are iron.

a 5.7 will be an aluminum block and heads. if you are looking at an iron block it is either a 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0. unless you get into ls2's or newer, but then you have to deal with more stuff:clonk:

these are what i went with:
520-2289 hooker headers or 520-2289-1 for ceramic coated
520-12611 motor mount relocators
710-20140 moroso pan
710-24050 pick up tube
or now they have an entire kit 697-30915K

these are jegs part numbers

hope this helps. also you will not be able to use your sc on the ls engine. the ports on the heads are way different, but i think you would be very surprised with the power the little ls engine will give you.

smax...that looks like the El Camino that used to run drag radial at Ozark Dragstrip in the past. Are you putting it back on the street?

My bad! Where my mind went that made me think of a 5.3 I have no idea!
The LS1 5.7 are aluminum blocks.

In some ways I'd rather have a lower mileage unmolested stock engine and maybe put a cam in it than one with all those "parts". A factory LSx engine is pretty well built.

SMAX, will all those swap parts for the LS1 work with an LS2 block? What more stuff would I have to deal with on an LS2?

The LS2 will swap in just the same but the reluctor wheel on the crank requires the LS2 or to be changed back to the LS1 reluctor wheel. A few sensors moved but adaptors are out for those. The LS2 also has a fly by wire TB. I am not sure if you can convert the LS2 factory ecm to a traditional cable tb.

The pro-touring area has had some swap topics as well.

93polo - Exactly what is the reluctor wheel? Can you elaborate more on your post for a noob?

93polo - this is what my engine builder wrote me back -
The eagle stroker crank comes with the LS1 24X reluctor wheel. The stock 05 and up LS2 comes with a 58X reluctor wheel. We leave the 24X wheel on so we can run the 99 to 04 computer that will support either throttle body style.

He also said regarding the throttle body
"We can do the Holley 90mm throttle body for 225.00 over the fly by wire one."

With this computer I'm running (remeber I'm running a carb), I don't see how the sensors or reluctor wheel will matter?
http://www.msdignition.com/2007/ls2controller.html
"The 6LS-2 is designed specifically for the LS2 and its 58-tooth wheel, which can be easily recognized by its gray harness connector. This compact ignition controller is fit with matching factory connectors for a direct installation. Only a handful of connections are required; the coils, crank sensor, MAP sensor and the cam sensor. You’ll have your carb’ed LS2 running in no time!"

It is a keyed disk on the crank near the back of the block that a sensor picks up the crank position from.

exactly what he said.:D i replied to your pm as well.
