: Refurbished Coan Converter?

I'm looking for something to give my little 350 some more kick while I get working on the 454 block I have waiting in the wings.

It is your basic Targetmaster-type Rebuilder 355ci, with the usual bolt-ons. 1 5/8 Hooker Comp headers (for Onovakind, the lengths vary greatly and the collector is too big :D ), 3310 Holley on top of Holley hi-rise dual plane, HEI, Dual 2.5" Exhaust w/ Dynomax "Hemi" Turbos, Flowmaster 2.5" tails.

stock converter TH350, 3.36 w/ powertrax.

Rear suspension: Edelbrock uppers, relocated stock lowers, replacement-type shocks.

Front suspension: Rebuilt.

Coan has a refurbished 11" 2600rpm converter for $150. Is it worth it for the added fun factor?

The BBC won't be ready until December probably.

Yes and no. If you can wait.....I suggest going with a ATI 10" Treemaster. Its pricey but the best converter money can buy IMHO. Alot of guys run em' on here and sware by em'.

For that price and if you can do the install yourself....thats a good deal and will give your more launch.

I'm aware of the Treemaster but I'd rather wait until the BBC is done to get one spec'd out.

I'm pretty sure I can do the install myself, although I've never done it before. Does the trans have to come down completely or is it possible to just slide it back far enough? Either way, I have the tools to get it done. I'll just need a little help from my buddy or my dad or brother.

I figure I'd sell the Coan later for half the price I pay and put the money towards the ATI, or a Continental like everyone around here runs.

Have you talked to Coan about this converter or did you see it on their website? I called them last week about a refurbed converter that was listed on their website. They said the website was not up to date and that converter was long gone.

I guess I should call them, it most likely is gone by now.

Myself and two others run the Redneck 9" race converters off Ebay. All three have been excellent out of the box nice and tight in part throttle driving, and 5-6% slip. Performs as well as my pricey Coan for about 1/4 the money.

I liked my Coan, and found them to be a good company to deal with. I thought it was a great converter for a reasonable price.

I also like my Coan and they will help you get the best converter for what you are going to be using it for.

I realize that Coan is a good company and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them at their normal price except for the fact that the current engine will be removed in about 6 months and the next engine will be much different.
