I've been lookin at curb weight of a bunch of vehicles lately. 06 GTO 3725, 06 Dodge Charger 4100, Chevy Tahoe 5100, Trailblazer 4800, SSR 4800. Heavy stuff. I weighed my 87 Monte Carlo, it weighs 3400. The 64 El Camino weighs 3300. It seems to me with all aluminum engines and all the plastic parts they use, they should be able to build a performance vehicle that doesn't kill the performance with weight.

There's so much crap on cars now, it's wonder they move forward at all.

Safety crap, creature comfort crap, useless crap. It all adds up. People are amazed when I tell them my El Camino weighs about the same as my Honda. They think they are giant steel blocks, pretty hollow though.
