I am putting together a 454 and would like some thoughts before I throw the cam I have in it. The cam I have is a crower hydrualic #01244 290/298 232/244 @050 561/570 lift 108 centerline. Std bore 454, #L2349 TRW pistons, #781 heads 2.19/1.88 stock w/mild port/bowl work, wieand steath intake, holley 800DP or 850DP (have both), MSD billet dist/6AL box. Motor should be right around 10 to 1 comp. & will be for street in 67SS with power brakes, turbo 400 3000stall and 4.10 gears. I bought the cam 5+ years ago for a 427/454 buildup. Any guesses as to HP/Torque.........THANX

The stock after the 2.19/1.88 was for stock GM valves, they were takeouts from SQ port heads. The valves are 2.19/1.88 not the smaller 2.07/1.72.

Cam sounds like a good fit. Is it the ICL or the LSA that's 108??

Are those the .210" dome TRW pistons ? Your combo is very similar to mine and I think that cam would work well for it. The 108 LSA should give it a nice choppy idle with quick response. graemlins/thumbsup.gif I am going with the Keith Black .250 dome hyper pistons and should be getting approx. 10.2:1 compression.

Others here know alot more about the cams than me though. The horsepower should be in the 500+ range I believe. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The cam has a lobe center of 108 and lobe seperation of 112. Pistons have a .265 dome. If heads are 119-122cc should be just under 10 to 1 compression.

Yeah, you must be referring to 'intake centerline" of 108 and separation of 112, so there is 4 degrees of advance built into the cam.

112 is OK. Smooth idle, broad power band. Not very peaky. Idle will be somewhat smooth. 112s are great for street cars running pwoer accesories or EFI. 110 lsa gives you a bit more punch, but if you have it run it.

Sorry, thought it was a 108 lobe separation. :D

Are you sure about that dome height on that piston. You might want to double check it. ;)

DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING, and then do it again. ;)

Dome size is .265 with .020 deck clearance, they are basically replacement LS-6 pistons. According to the books they will net 9.99 with 119cc head and from reading posts here on team chevelle most #781's have 119-122cc chambers.

Be real careful when checking your valve clearance. I had to switch to K/B 257s because I couldn't use my TRW pistons with my cam. I have a crane hyd roller, .612/.630 lift but there was no way it would go. The K/Bs were cut way deeper than the LS6 type pistons. I think that mine were L2399s if I'm not mistaken. They are still sitting in my garage. You may not have a problem, just measure carefully.
