Your car looks great Scott.
Your times are very impresive. You have to just love these 502 motors.

We were next to you with the orange 67 Camaro with the 522.

Dave D. got his liscence today and I Hot laped 2 runs in before they closed the track.

Glad Dave was able to help you out in the staging lanes before they closed.

It was a cold day there and windy but we had a blast.

Are you willing to put out the combo in a lil more detail? The reason I ask is because I have been working on a 66 rag for the whole season and you have almost identical numbers as he does. The 66 is a 502/pg/410 car. We did a custom solid roller in it with an open plenum manifold plus Harland Sharp roller rockers. I think it would be cool to pass along the info we both have for the board to see what we both did to accomplish an almost identical ET. Of course the weights and the 60 and 330 numbers would be cool to see too. I am ready to drop our hand and show what we have in the interest of the board. A lot of people told me the combo I was putting together wouldn’t work, I think 10.83 is pretty good for what I had to work with -- I have some cool flow bench info on the bone stock 502/502 heads--- this was our starting point.. Anybody wanna see?

Additionally---- when we had trouble getting the car to hook we all pointed at the PG--- we had a few guys out here tell us to not condemn the PG and look to the chassis--- Well---------they were RIGHT. The car weighs 3670(I will double check that info tomorrow) and we got it to pull consistent 1.5X with 1.51 being best with a 9 and mostly in the 1.52-54 range.. So my hat is off to the guys that forced us to make the PG work in a heavy car.

Now it is time to spend a lil more time with my 68 454 4 speed car and see if we can work a lil magic in that one… my best MPH is in the 113 range and et on 24” tall streets is a killer (mood killer that is) is 12.75… we always have next year……..

Congrats, Scott. .25 off your ET isn't bad for a first outing with the new cam  Sounds like there is more in it. It must really be pulling the first part of the track to run 10's at 121. Post a copy of the whole timeslip when you get a chance. Welcome to the 10 second club.

No problem Scott.

Once in a while you should run some 110 through the motor. It made a difference with the stock 502/502.

Don Scinto built this motor for me. It's a certian set up for a 502. Not many around. He said it'll run high 9's as a base, and then we can start tweek'n it.
We just got this car on the track 2 month's ago.
The carb will get a little work over, Change the suspension a bit. It weights 3295 for now. We had to add 100 lbs. to balance the car.

It has a Dana 60 posi rear now. A spooled set up with new axels are going in this winter.

This car should be in the 9.2-9.3 range.

I was gonna try and get to the valley to see how you did, but I got sent on a couple jobs that couldnt wait till monday. Sorry I missed you so many times today on the phone, I was in and out a lot. I called you once at work, the guy first told me you were with a customer, but when I told him its John calling, he said "Actually he's in the bathroom. You wanna wait?" I said no, he might be awhile!! Just thought you might like to know you have no secrets there. I'll call you tomorrow. Great job once again, I think Im sold on a solid roller for next year. :D John

I ran 12.20 with the stock zz505/502....I changed the cam and got 11.70's out of it.....(took a year)Then I had the heads done and got 11.30's -11.0's....(another year)Put the cam in last week and hit the 10's.......(another year)

I was getting faster and faster as the day went on.......I think with no wind a 10.78 or 10.79 was there........also with the wind my 10.83 pass was only 120.83 mph........So again no wind I'm guessing 123mph would have been the norm for the day.........I did pull a couple 121.17 and 121.0 .....

Tom......Tell Mark the reason my video camara died is that he left it on....... :D :D I have an hour of you guy's talking and seeing the bleachers ??.......

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do for next year....Maybe a VIC JR....

I'm putting the flows and street tires on tonight and I'm gonna drive my car every day this week to work graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Scott,
We talked to Glen at LVD and we have reserved 7 track rentals for next year. Some of them might be on Thursdays.

Would you be intertested? I can contact you with the dates.

Scott, what do you think the gains would of been with the new cam only without the head work? Just curious, I'm just wondering how much the stock heads would flow with the larger cam.

Lee...With stock heads I would not go with a cam quite as big as the one I went with......I would go with a solid roller in the range of 248/254 @50 630/650 lift.....I was gonna go with a bit smaller but with the heads being fully ported we thought this was the way to go.........These #'s are off the trailer and I only opened the hood one time all day....There are a few guy's here that picked up a bunch by just swapping the cam.....What cam do you have now....
What are your shift points.......and what converter did you end up with.....

Scott.

I have the crower 01405LM, I think this is the same as the one you had if I remember right. It's 245/253 @.050 .612/.636 but have 1.8 roller rockers. I shift at 6000 and cross the finish line at 5400@115MPH. I have used the SS3800 and the PY4000 from Yank, both were about the same et but the PY4000 with it's posi lockup gave me 4MPH on the top end. I still run drag radials and traction is minimul. I dropped timing to 12 degrees from idle to 5000RPM to try and get some traction, helps but it's still bad. I got the et down to 11.85's with 1.8 60's (6800 corrected altitude).

Now my wifes camaro has the exact same engine( minus the tunnel ram, both are still MPFI from Holley) but has a TH400 with T-Brake, Yank P5000 and she runs 11.3's here and 11.08 at Boise (3800 corrected altitude). She crosses the line at 6400. With her looser stall and higher MPH I thought that a larger cam would help her get closer to the 10's

Did you raise your compression?

The heads were shaved ....From the 9.6.1 to 10.3.1 ...The heads were the biggest gain in anything I have done ......The best $1000 bucks I've ever spent....All the other things helped but the heads just made a huge diff and I picked up a half a second at the track......I'm real happy with the work Mike did and will use him again for sure...Real nice to deal with and takes the time with you unlike many others.....I dont understand when you call or visit someone and your gonna spend the money and they treat you like CRAP......I also called a few other places including some local dirt track builders and the cost was no diff if not more....Mike also as done a few sets for my engine builder and again all good stuff.....I think I gave you his # last year ????......

You need to get your car to hook and that will help a ton....sounds like you have the right converter ...The only other thing I do is shift at 5500 1st to 2nd and 6000 2nd to 3rd......Also are you stalling your car or leaving off idle...I leave at idle and my best 60ft is 1.519...SSM bars ,air bags,Hoosier quick time pro's ..13lbs ...Real simple rear with 411's...

I just got back from some freeway video and a back street burnout

Man ...I'm not ready for winter......

70_chevelle
Nov 6th, 03, 6:59 PM
I cant leave off idle, it just blows the tires off. I stall it to around 3000RPM then it flashes to about 4400RPM. I do plan on running slicks next season so that should help.

Your 60 is better then my wife's camaro with a T-Brake, she averages 1.54 but hit a few 1.49's

How long did they need the heads for? Did you have to mill the intake at all to match? Does your car still run pump gas? We just put in 91 since that's the highest we have and I would still want to be able to run 91 after the headwork.

Thanks,

Lee

I can stop at any station and get gas ....pump gas all the way....89 octane is what I ran my 10's with....If you leave at idle then you should not blow the tires off.......When you say idle what rpm are you at....Scott.

70_chevelle
Nov 7th, 03, 12:00 AM
Glad to hear about the gas, I think it's real cool to run as quick as you are on true pump gas!

Off idle is 900 RPM. I talked with mike at Yank and told him I just cant hold the tires (we new this when I bought the converter but I thought I could control it with the computerized timing) and he suggested I bring up the RPM as high as I could to limit the flash rpm and to not shock the tires. This works a ton better. My 60's with just stabbing the gas off idle is unsually around 1.95's
