Well guys. I posted last week about the fuel rod stuck. I tried for a few days to get it out. I finally called my engine builder for some advice. Long story short. Heres me following the velle on a flatbed headed for the shop.

I will be so happy if I ever get this car on the road.

Wish me luck!!!!!!!

Dan I was just curious as to how a fuel pump rod could get stuck? There doesn't appear to be much room for debris to get into the hole to jam it up. Just wondering for my own education.

Thanks.

Jeff:

Back when I was working my way through college as a mechanic, a man brought his GM truck with a 454 in for us to put a fuel pump on. He had tried to put it on and didn't push the rod up and he jammed the pump arm on the rod. Somehow it bent the rod and we couldn't fix it. He wound up taking it to a dealer but I don't know the final tale of what was done to it.

Hmmm, that makes sense and I bet it was a bugger to get out.

I was just wondering since Dan said he called his engine builder (Sorry to talk around you Dan!) I assume it was running when it left that guys shop. So how does it get stuck after that?

I had a lightwieght fuel pump rod loose a tip and it mushroomed the end of the rod. I had to pull motor apart and use dremel on that end of the rod so that I could remove it.

run a electric pump and be done with it. i kinda thought you probably bent it when you asked how to install. i've seen it done before. sometimes there a pain.hope it works out for ya so you can enjoy your ride asap.

Here's an update. I had the engine built. I was going to install the fuel pump and got the rod to move up slightly and that was it. It was jammed. This engine has never been fired. Anyhow I took it to the builder, who has been very apologetic. The rod was bent. They had to weld a rod to the end of the pushrod and use a slide hammer to get it out. Now they just have to check the block and install a new pushrod.

Sounds like someone put to long of bolt in the push rod "holding" hole in the front of the block and tightened it up to me.

I did that once. Not sure if it bent the rod or just made a smooshed part on it that got stuck in the bore.
