am restoreing a 67 ss,going to get started on the engine pretty soon.Have a 67 396 block and heads.heads are 215 castings.valves are 2.06-1.72 heads are about 100cc. the cam i'm thinking about putting in is a compcams is a 270H or a XE268H.Has anybody had any experience with these cams? Also am installing a RPM intake.Pistons i bought are speed pro L2240NF30's,.182 dome. What carb would be a good choice?I'M not thinking about originality on the engine. What about a holly 770 street avenger or edelbrock performer? Also what are the atvantages if any,on useing a mechanical secondary carb over a vacume secondary carb? Also are there any atvantedges to using bigger vales on these closed chamberd heads?I think my comp.ratio is going to be about 9.7 any thougths would be appretiated.

Why not just use a Holley 3310? it'll look more original, and behave well. Plus, they're reasonable $. If it's a stick shift, I would consider the venerable 750 double pumper as well. You can get a new one in silver if that's your taste. If you're buying a new DP, you might even consider the 700-cfm Holley. 270/275-ish advertised duration seems correct. Transmission and final gear ratio required to comment on cam choice any further.

Welcome to Team Chevelle! I'm sure the fellas who run 396s and those heads will have a lot to add.
