Hey folks,

When I ran the numbers on my 400 sb it said the motor was built "70-72". How do you find out which year? Also, was it built for leaded or unleaded gas? TIA,

Look on the top rear of the block (bell housing flange) for a casting date (should have a letter and 2-4 numbers). Example: C231, which would be C=Mar, 23=23rd day, 1=1971. Then look at the front passengers side for stamped numbers and let us know what you find (the casting date tells when the molten metal was poured into the mold, and another date code up front tells when the engine was assembled).
