I have had my 65 Chevelle for 3 1/2 years and did not know about this site. Wow very cool and resource full. I have a question? I know my engine is a bored over 350, but the ID on it states they made this engine for several years. I was wanting to know the exact year. Id is 3970010. There is also GM29 and also TND in the same area.No pad in the front just the one by the firewall. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks John :hurray: Cool Site
With just the casting number you are not going to be able to narrow down when the engine was built. You might try to post where to look for the other indicators in the the tag team section.

3970010 was either a two bolt or four bolt main.If my memory is right it was made for the LT1 engines ,I think 1969 to 1972.I have one here with a four bolt made into a stroker 383

Hello and welcome John. There should be a 3 digit casting on the back of the block near the other casting # you found.
