: Carb heat shield installed, effects on carb tune?

I finally installed an old GM heat shield under my Holley, took a little cutting and grinding to get it to clear all the carb/intake/ignition peripherals, but its on there now.

I haven't driven it yet, but I have a few general questions about the effects of a heat shield, not really specific to my engine.

With the heat shield installed I would assume that the carb body, and fuel bowls would be somewhat cooler. I would also assume that this would result in cooler fuel and air passing through the carb. Would the decrease in temperature require any changes to the carb tune?

In general, when you decrease the air and fuel temperatures, what kind of effects on the carb tune should be expected?

I've never had to change jets after adding a heat shield install. I'd guess you won't need one unless you can verify before/after with WBO2 meter.

I run one on my 70 SS454
No changes required.Bolt it on and go.

Just came back from a drive. Usually a short trip around town would make the carb feel hot to touch, now the carb is relatively cool and the heat shield is about as hot as the carb used to be. I can put my finger on the carb and leave it there.

Well, its functional!

Now I need to find something to wrap around the steel fuel line in the engine compartment to further cool things down.

google on firesleeve, it's good. slide it over the line, use shrink sleeve on the ends for a neat appearance.

Tom,

Looks like the stuff Brian is using on his Camaro. I just checked the price at McMaster Carr (Brian's source) and the Aerospace rated stuff is $4.27 a foot for .50" ID $8 for the same stuff from Ebay. I can probably pick the stuff at the McMaster Carr location in Santa Fe Springs too.
