I am interested in having somebody look at some pictures of Pad stamp and VIN stamp (by oil filter).

Is there a guru that I could e-mail them to?

I am leary about posting pictures of them for all to see to try and prevent restampers from gaining knowledge.

1970 El Camino SS454 LS6. Original block is out of car so I can get good pics.

Thanks,
Timothy

Timothy,

I don't consider myself a guru but I do have quite a bit of experience with 1970 Chevelles. Plus, I live in Maryland and would help.

Is the car built at the Flint plant, or more probably the Fremont CA. plant? (Z)

Its a Baltimore car.

That's interesting...I have not heard of Balto plants stamping any cars down by the filter. I would like to see the picture of the stampings, if you wouldn't mind. I have several on file to compare them to. Do you think the engine has ever been decked??

Thanks,

A little paranoid aren't we! Nothing we do is going to stop the atrocity that has (and is) happening to the classic car hobby least of all one photo posted on the internet. Sorry if I sound harsh but with all of the "counterfeiting" going on nothing is safe any more.

Engine stampers and other fake/fraudulent builders and especially sellers have a better idea of what's correct than most buyers as evident of the many people writing questions about their car or a potential one and finding it not what they've been told.

IMO, sharing info with all will make more people aware of what's going on and less people getting ripped off. For every 1 or 2 dishonest people out there doing this stuff, we can educate ten times that many honest people.

yeah, don't think we'll end life as we know it by posting a pic of a vin stamp. anyone can see them on ebay, car shows, an engine shop, etc...

Yes, BUT if someone posts one here, and we all say that it is a good stamp, that also educates the fakers who will try harder the next time they try to deceive some poor hard working fellow out of his hard earned dollars.
