I have fixed an old distributor to put a drill on and build the oil pressure up.How much oil should I expect to see come out the top of the pushrods and how long should it take once I start turning distributor? I have heard some people say it's very hard and takes a long time to get oil out the top with a drill. Thanks for any replies!!

once you start priming the motor you need to turn the crank by hand......move alittle prime turn it again prime......and so on.......i would worry to much to try and get out of the rocker arms..........get the oil pressure built up and a few turns on the crank and your good to go.......you can really smoke a drill doing this specially if a cheapy from wal-mart.....lol.....but hey they exchange them right.......lol.....ok i stopped doing that didnt want them to catch on after the 3rd drill.

Ddennis is right on. I "struck oil" this past weekend on my new 396 by drilling, turning the crank a little, drilling, and after about 3-5 minutes, oil slowing began coming out of the push rods.
When you hand-turn the crank, only turn it just a little at a time. It takes a little patience.
