I would put a thick head gasket on the heads ad reduce the compression that way. If you have not cc'ed the chambers or the dome I would do so before a full disassembly. You would be surprised on the error of standard specs that are spouted expecially with chamber volumes. You may not need to do a rebuild. Have you done a compression test yet? If it is 170 or less you should get away with pump gas.
