i've had my 72 chevelle for about nine months. when i got it it didn't run, i put in a new painless kit and that fixed the problem for that. now i upgraded all of the upper portion of my engine and the thing wont start at all. i've got a brand new msd set up (dist., box, coil, and plug wires), new 750 demon carb, dart pro 1 heads, roller everything (lifters, cam, rockers), and a wiand single plain intake. i am getting spark from all of my wires and all of my plugs are good, battery is fully charged, i have a good ground. i have good pressure in all of my cylinders, my valves are all set correctly, and i have tried moving the dist. the timing is set to tdc on comp stroke. i dont know what to try next, the engine turns over just fine but i cant even get it to fire at all. i am about to start thinkin about gettin rid of the car all together if i cant drive it soon.

1. WHAT is your cranking compression for all 8 cylinders?
2. Does the accelerator pump shoot gas when you whack the throttle open? Is the gasoline so old it hardly burns?
3. Have you put a timing light on #1 and cranked the engine? Does the gun flash? What is the timing?

i have plenty of new gas and it's coming out of the acc pump just fine. i dont have a pressure guage for my cylinder, i pulled out my spark plugs and put my finger over the hole and it blew my finger out when the piston came up. i also dont have a timing light

You need to give the distibutor a crank and advance it easily an 1 inch and I'll bet it fires up. Although you have it static TDC #1, it'll show way retarded if you could get it to run, which it won't with that timing.
If you do a static set at TDC on #1 it will actually show about 10 + degrees retarded when it is running(if it were to run). I know it sounds weird but when the dynamics of an engine when it is running is not be as it shows when just sitting there.
If you set it about 25-30 degrees BTDC, static wile engine is not turning, it'll be cloes to 10-15 initial with a timing light when it fires up and you can check it.
