Right now I have a 305/60/15 mounted to an 8.5" rim. The tires I have recommend a 9" rim (not too far off). I want to get rid of the bias street slicks and go to a drag radial. I am looking at the 325/50. How different in size is that compared to my 305/60? A bit taller and skinnieer vs. shorter and wider?? I was also looking at the 295/65 as well. This is on my 71 velle.

actaully the 50 and 60 is a ratio of the 325 and the 305 so the side wall will pretty much stay the same but the tread will be wider. 325 is a little big for a 8.5 inch rim but a drag radial should be okay on them.
just wondering why dont you just keep a 305/60 but get it in a drag radial? do they not make that size? also, i don't think you want to put a smaller tire on with those 295/65's

The tires I have now are American Racers (former McCreary's). They are a bias style DOT legal street/race tire. I want to go with a radial for the stronger sidewalls. I am sick of the car "skatin" around when I hit a bump on the road. I checked M/T, BFG's, and the new Goodyear drag radials and they don't make a 305/60. That is why I was looking at the 295/65 or the 325/50. I know the recommended rim size for those tires though are around 9-11 inches.

hmm how stretched out were your 305's? you may be able to fit 325's on those 8.5 rims but it will definately be a tight fit and the side walls will buldge out. 295 would fit perfect. I would not put a smaller tire on your hod rod of a car though, try and squeeze those 325's on :)

I am sure they would fit if I went to a 10" rim with 5.5 bs. I saw a 69 Chevelle at Ocean City this past weekend that had 325/50 M/T drag radials under it with no clearance issues.

Yeah, considering I wanted to switch from Weld to Centerlines 2 years ago. Weld at least makes a 15x10 with a 5.5 bs......Centerline doesn't. Thats why I went with the 15x8.5 with a 4.5(?) bs. Not many in my area have Centerline Warriors rims......EVERYBODY has Welds!!

Not Dragstars around here......more of the Draglites. I had a set on my Velle for years and just pulled them to put on my Elco. I too like those Trakstars!!
I wanted to get a set of 17's for my El Camino, never thought about the 15x10's for the Chevelle?? They are definately a cool arse rim.
