: Lost a race to a crotch rocket! O well.....
Chief fat nutz May 23rd, 07, 12:10 AM A friend has a 04' Ninja 636cc street bike, small but still fast. I only lost by 1-2 car lengths at max. I was happy about that one cause I got him from 1/8 mile then after that he started to walk on by me.
Bikes are fast....but I want more power! Maybe I should just skip the larger mini-blower and go to a 6-71 blower? Then theres traction issues all over again! GRRRRRRRR!
-SS454- May 23rd, 07, 12:15 AM be happy u stayed with him that long lol. Odd your allowed to race beside a bike at the track, its not allowed around here.
12.42@109 usually wont be a match for most crotch rockets. But most riders wont do better than mid 11's, but their trap speeds are always crazy. 04 Ninja's are 10 second bikes with good riders.
Old, fat, bald guy May 23rd, 07, 12:37 AM Maybe I should just skip the larger mini-blower and go to a 6-71 blower?
Then you'll be lined up against a GSXR1000 or 1300 or a ZX-11 / 12 / 14 and you'll have to start the process all over again :D
quikss May 23rd, 07, 12:55 AM Same here, no track would ever allow a bike to run against anything but another bike or sometimes a snowmobile. Never a car or truck of any sorts. Was this actually on a track or "someplace else"? If it was a track I wouldn't be running there any more, lacking horribly in the safety area:sad:
I agree 12.42 isn't going to stand a chance against even the smallest crotch rockets with any type of rider on it. I would like to see my car run a 12.42 (no idea what it runs now), but I wouldn't even attempt it against a bike. They are crazy quick.

_Bear_ May 23rd, 07, 1:01 AM I love racing crotch rockets, they are so inconsistant. We are allowed to race side by side here on Friday night fun nights. Most of the riders are out for the first time, and get scared to death when the bike hooks hard on VHT, and back right out of it. If the guy is experianced, we dont stand a chance. We have a guy here that races his Hybusa, it is mostly stock and he runs high 9's.
Cheers

This is against a Honda RC51 1000cc, supposedly "RaceBike".
On the first run of the night for both of us, we lined up purely by happenstance. I spanked him.
He tracked me down in the staging lanes for a rematch, removed his mufflers (gave to girlfriend to carry). I got outta shape on the start of race #2, allowing him a couple lengths lead. I ran him down, getting the win by .03.
Race #3 is the above video, it appears that he is gaining on me, but my trap speed was like 126 mph, while his was only 122. If you look closely, I had to get out the throttle about 10' off the line because of tire spin (frontend drops and visible tire smoke). If I remember correctly, this was an 11.04 run for me.
dreis454 May 23rd, 07, 5:34 AM Mods are gonna get this thread.......

he never said it was at the track, thats why I say the mods will delete this thread.

2 guys I work with both have their NHRA license. One's got a SBC Nova on NOS, ones got a Skidoo. They can't race side by side, but if they did, I'd put my money on the Skidoo in a 1000' race every time.

We have a couple sleds here running deep into the 8's now. I would be scared !@#$less riding one of those. Their isn't much between the rider and the ground there.
We also have a street legal Hyabusa turbo'd and spraying. Crazy, crazy fast!!!
Jeff
JC70SS May 23rd, 07, 1:22 PM I wouldn't put my money on the Ski-doo-doo....the motor will probably blow!!!
bochnak May 23rd, 07, 1:23 PM Ever try launching a bike? Very hard to do. I had 2 buddies ride my bike thinking they can do better, only running much slower, not saying I'm a great rider or anything.
chevelledude71 May 23rd, 07, 4:27 PM I've never raced a motorcycle and will never waste my gas...on either. I have an 07 GSX-R750 and it's faster (duh) than my Chevelle and Mustang. No matter who is driving, someone will always lose.
chevguy65 May 23rd, 07, 5:35 PM Yeah we have snowmobiles here that just get with it....
http://www.firebirdonline.com/Season_Opener/07_opener/D.jpg
Stopping former NHRA World Champ Rich Pedraza in the Snow/Bike final, Jacob Wood, near lane, put together a 9.39 (9.30)-127.22 on his Arctic Cat. Pedraza was runner-up with a 11.17 (11.11)-106.15
Pretty cool!

That is wild !!!!!!!!!!!!!! makes me want to buy a sled and take it to Bristol......man would they freak....most people down here have never even seen a snomobile

chevelledude71 May 23rd, 07, 6:15 PM I think that snowmobile racing is stupid; IMO. If they were drag racing on the SNOW, I could see watching it. I'm glad that isn't going on down here. To each his own, that is for sure.
Derek69SS May 23rd, 07, 6:20 PM I think that snowmobile racing is stupid; IMO. If they were drag racing on the SNOW, I could see watching it.It's too cold to stand around watching them in the snow... I prefer watching them race on grass.
Beer doesn't stay cold as long, but the women show more skin. :beers:

You really need to see how far these sleds can carry their front ends down the track and still run 8-9 second quarters. When the sleds first started racing I thought they were stupid too, but now that they are running so incredibly fast, it amazing to watch them go.

Grass?!? To heck with that, put 'em on an asphalt or concrete drag strip and let 'er rip. They don't do burn outs on the grass:thumbsup: I like watching them race over open water, now thats entertainment.
Jeff
Derek69SS May 23rd, 07, 6:34 PM I like watching them race over open water, now thats entertainment. My uncle used to do that about 15 years ago. As often as they'd sink them, I'm surprised if it's still allowed with the oil/gas pollution regulations getting more strict all the time. :clonk:
Old, fat, bald guy May 23rd, 07, 11:58 PM This is against a Honda RC51 1000cc, supposedly "RaceBike".
RC51 is a different kind of race bike - its a twin cylinder that was aimed at taking the AMA and WSB domination away from Ducati. It never was intended as a drag bike.... take the bike to its enviroment (a road course) and I'm sure you'd be out of your element and losing.
Kinda like lining up an F1 car against a TF funny car..... who's gonna win where?
_Bear_ May 24th, 07, 12:23 AM We have a few guys on sleds here running low 9's

WHAT? I bet you stand in the snow, drinking a cold beer, in a T-shirt and no hat. :)

Jeff, I will take your word for it, but I don't think I will be able to see any down this way anytime soon. Maybe when I move back to Kentucky there will be some...hmmmmm?
Jblack May 24th, 07, 8:23 AM Don't knock snowmobile racing until you try it!! My good buddy used to race grass drags for years in the 90's. I went with him a few times and even ran a couple of his sleds. He had a stock Ski Doo 800 that went 95mph + in 600ft! That damn thing wanted to come out from underneath you! The improved and pro classes are well over 100mph. Can't imagine what they are running now. Hell my 03 800 two-up pulls the ski's like crazy.

I'm actually quite suprised they don't race them in the south. Most of the dedicated race sleds (quarter mile) will never see snow. These sleds are full out built drag racing machines only. I would have figured some one down there would have caught on to how fast you can go for pretty darn cheap and want to start doing it. Hell if for nothing else to be the first to do it down there.
Jeff
Byfield May 24th, 07, 9:42 AM WHAT? I bet you stand in the snow, drinking a cold beer, in a T-shirt and no hat. :)
I don't think he's a Packers fan
69-CHVL May 24th, 07, 9:43 AM What actually lubricates the snowmobile track when there on asphalt?
70SS540 May 24th, 07, 9:45 AM I think they lowered the distance to 500 ft now on the grass drags to keep the speed down, but the pro mods are still going over 115 mph in that distance! You ought to see them race on ice. They use picks in the tracks that bite the ice for awesome traction. The launch and acceleration are unbelieveable.
69-CHVL,
They use a combination of extra bogey wheels and high density polyethelene wear bar that the steel track clips ride on.
Bowtie-72 May 24th, 07, 11:55 AM Imagine over 320hp on one of those. It's quite possible, and several guys are more than that. I helped work the pits a few races for a buddy during ice season. Nothing like hoping an ice stud doesn't get shot out the back...
BTW: 9.15 @140 with an 800CC engine is scary fast. The sleds are about 640-650 pounds in race trim.
JC70SS May 24th, 07, 12:38 PM Jeff Simon has a turbo yamaha that goes deep, deep into the 8's. I'l try to post a video.
JC70SS May 24th, 07, 1:39 PM Here is a video of an 8 sec turbo Yamaha. 1000cc 4 stroke with a turbo.
