I've had more posts in the last few days than in the last few years. I guess you don't realize all the little odds and ends that need finished. Anyhow I built a 454 to replace my 350. I used all the brackets off my buddies 85 Suburban. I tried using the power steering pump off the Suburban, but the high pressure line won't seat. I thought the pumps changed in 75 but wasn't sure. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't I look for a pre 75 BB pump to work with my 68 hoses?

pre-1979....... inverted flare style
79-newer......."O" ring style
"O"ring type is metric thread
inverted is SAE thread
1975 pump should work fine with your hoses.

If you tried to use the pump from your buddy's Suburban, wouldn't that have been a 1985 pump? If so, it is metric o-ring as mentioned above.
You could try removing the discharge fitting from your 1968 pump and swapping it into the new pump. It just might work.

Yes. I tried to use the 85 pump. No go. I'm gonna pick up a pump for an earlier model like a 70 chevelle or something. I converted the car back to power steering when it had the small block, but the return line on that pump doesn't work with the BB brackets. BTW thanks for the replies.
