: V8 S10 info needed
Dragn70 Jan 24th, 04, 4:24 PM Does anyone own or have a friend with a v8 s10 that can tell me its weight and weight saving mods that have been done? My friend has a stock 1986 v6 auto, extra cab and want to run 6.90's 7.00's in the 1/8 and I'm trying to find a starting place.
supersport396_2000 Jan 24th, 04, 5:16 PM I think its www.s10.com (http://www.s10.com)
saturnstyl Jan 24th, 04, 6:12 PM jagsthatrun.com I think is the website, or do a search on jags that run and you will likely find a selection of books to help you. I have 2 of them but decided against the project because they just are not fast enough to justify all the work and expense. S-10 trucks are deceivingly heavy, and frame flex is very pronounced. Bottom line, it will never hook, handle well, or be very fast with a basic swap, and it will be a pain in the rear end to work on. graemlins/waving.gif
BowtieAaron Jan 24th, 04, 7:13 PM www.s10forum.com (http://www.s10forum.com) and www.v8s10.org (http://www.v8s10.org) are both good places to check up on this. i dont have a s10 yet, but i do check them sites pretty much.

RacnJsn95 Jan 24th, 04, 7:17 PM I had a friend with a 327 S10. I don't know about the weight but I know it wasn't as fast as my Chevelle. I know (of) a guy that worked at shuck's he has an S-10 with a 383, I think it's fastest time was 11.74. No clue about wight savings or anything like that. I'd like to put a v8 in a Luv myself. A buddy of mine has a stock 350 in one, It weighs about 3000-3200. It runs low 14s. He needs a new motor...
i did my first v-8 s-10 back in '91, still have it too. drove it everyday for about 7 years now i just use it when i need a truck. anyways, it is an '85 Tahoe 2wd iron head 350/th350 with all stock body, interior, p/s, p/b, but no a/c. it weighs 3280lbs with me in it, so a little over 3100lbs for the truck itself. i would think for a drag only truck a person could get it down to 2600lbs pretty easily by doing away with alot of the creature comforts and using fiberglass where possible. also mine has a 22 gal fuel tank which is considerably heavier than a fuel cell which most guys run in them. as far as the frame goes, i believe they are stronger than most cars except for the older pre 78 cars. the frame strength on the 80 malibu i had wasn't nearly as good as my s-10's. they use the same frontend parts as all g-bodys, except the centerlink is shorter on the s-10. they are more of a PITA to work on than a Chevelle, but i'd much rather work on my s-10 than on my 93 LT1 Z. ;)
jakeshoe Jan 24th, 04, 10:04 PM I did the swap,
installed a 5.7 TBI into my '87 S10 4x4 a few years ago.
Was a nice handling truck, would outrun your typical 5.0 Mustang from light to light, and was a heckuva sleeper with a totally stock 350.
Definitely would recommend the JagsThat run manuals. Follow their instructions and recommendations and you will have a nice truck.
There are some things I would not recommend, email me for info.

Dragn70 Jan 25th, 04, 9:19 AM Thanks for the info. Just from talking to my friend , I don't think he has real seen the cost of this project, he just wants to stop running his 68 Chevelle and make it a streeter again.
novaderrik Jan 26th, 04, 3:37 AM i'm in the middle of putting a TBI 350 out of a 92 Caprice cop car into a 1988 4X4 S-10 reg cab/long box that originally had a 4.3. i'm up to about $300 or so total- including buying the truck- and just need a serpentine belt, lower rad hose, exhaust from the slightly modified y-pipe back, and a reverse rotation flex fan, and it should be ready to roll. it doesn't HAVE to be an expensive swap, if you can make simple stuff like engine mounts yourself, and start out with one that had a 4.3 in it originally. in a 4X4, you also need to weld the 4.3 oil pan sump onto the v8 pan, but that wasn't too hard to do.
72sselcamino Jan 26th, 04, 6:11 AM Here's my kid's S-15 (http://72sselcamino1.tripod.com/calscaminos/id11.html)
He ran a 12.92 his first night out with it. That's with NO TRACTION on street tire's and a peg leg rear end. He also had a bad stumble in the carb. Now he plan's on tubbing the rear and all that jazz.
I have a short video, but have no way to post it. Anyone care to post it for me. Cal
BigRed-L72 Jan 26th, 04, 9:06 AM We put a 383 with 10.0-1 comp. In an S-10 street driven deal using a 'glide and 3.73 gears it went 11.33@118 very first time out.
Nothing radical to it at all.
Dragn70 Jan 26th, 04, 9:49 PM Big Red, was that with a slapper or lift bar rear end? Have any idea what it weighs?
