: Shared the Chevelle with my Son Yesterday
MrBill66Malibu May 21st, 07, 7:48 PM I finally got the clutch sorted out and the new stroker is running strong. So my son and I are out just cruising around (To hell with gas prices) and I pull into a parking lot and let my 18 yr old (almost 19) get in and drive. He throws it in first and pulls right off!!!!!!!!! He hasn't driven a stick since he drove the Chevelle over a year ago. This is the only stick he has ever driven. I was really proud of him!!!!!!!!! I tell him to give it some gas and a huge smile grows on both of our faces :) This kid is a great student (better than his old man) very responsible, does very well in college and definitely has his head screwed on straight. Yeah.... gas is $3.27 for hitest, but sharing this with my son is PRICELESS. Life is good!!!!!!! (Yeah I stole that line) LOL

Great story Bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dscabra May 21st, 07, 9:19 PM I have two daughters. My oldest is a racing (Kasey Kahne) fan. One day I let her drive my 70 El Camino -- she has a 2000 Toyota Solara SLE. She was not impressed with the feel of the old car (brakes, steering, lack of power seats, mirrors, window, etc.) Oh well -- I tried. :pout:
fabio May 21st, 07, 9:26 PM I remember when I was in high school and my dad let me drive the el camino after he picked me up from practice. One of the best times I had, at a young age those manuals feel like a race car and are a blast. Sounds like you guys had fun and enjoying your classic.
woodstock May 22nd, 07, 11:40 AM Bill, Great story. Good to hear your '66 is up and running again. The car looks great in the pics in your link... LOL at the, "OH SH..!" at the end of the video clip. :D Hopefully we'll catch up with you sometime this summer.

BillsCamino May 22nd, 07, 1:29 PM Sure Bill...I remembered. That's what made your story even more special to me and triggered my recollection of teaching my Dad.
Hope to see y'all again soon! Maybe at the NC show in October? We'll be there.

Chirp08 May 22nd, 07, 6:29 PM I met my best friend because we were talking cars at lunch one day, I had previously had once class with this kid and never spoke a word to him, Sr. year I was in the same lunch with him and nobody else i knew so we started talking. He asked about my car because everyone knew I drove it but didn't necessarily know me and I told him about it and was like "you wanna go for a ride?" A month or so later I let him drive it, only non-family member I ever let drive it.
I let my sister drive it but she was too afraid to jump on it, both times it had an auto, I put it in 1st for my sister and told her exactly how fast to go and when to jump on it and she just wouldn't, only half throttle.
I love when I get the chance to share my car with others.
Mr69 May 22nd, 07, 7:52 PM Looking back I'd have to say that what got me "hooked" on Chevelles, was when I drove my buddies car for the first time.
It was a 69 SS, burnished brown, 396 with headers and a rumpety rump cam, a 4 speed M20 and 4:10 gears. Man was that car fun to drive and it sounded soooooooo good. You didn't even really have to be getting on it. It was just a pleasure to drive it and row it thru the gears. Fond memories and Good times.........
I have a younger cousin who got into Mopars because of me.
Back around 1984 I test drove a 1969 Roadrunner off a dealers lot. It was a trade in. 383, 4 speed and posi. Red with black interior. Ohhhh what a car. 68,000 orig miles and they were asking $2000.00 (yeah I am kicking myself again).
I thought, well, I'm going to cruise up to my cousins house and see if Darrin is home so he can see this awesome car. This is my moms sisters boy. She has 5. Darrin wasn't there. (prob out cruising in his 1971 LT1 Vette), but his much younger brother was. I said c'mon jump in and we'll go for a cruise.
There was a good covering of snow on the ground and I fishtailed that car around every turn. he was impressed so much that to this day he will tell you that I am responsible for his love of cars. Especially the Mopars. Now he works in a resto shop and has several cars of his own. How sweet is that !
