Its a 402 with large oval port heads, 2.19/1.88 valves. a comp XE-286H cam. 800 DP Holley on a performer RPM intake. The motor is around 9.5:1 compression. Im running a TH-400 with a 2800 to 3200 BM converter, and 3.73s out back. Its in my 69 now and awaiting a few other parts to be finished. I plan to run it on the street with a little track time now and then. Will this setup work ok, or is it a turd??

I had the same combo with less cam and it wasn't bad good for some well spirited tire frying, but now I stepped it up after we blew it up. graemlins/clonk.gif Should be fun, good luck.

I had a 396, .030" over with a 294s Comp cam with stock open chambers, 2.06/1.72" valves, RPM intake, modified 800 double pumper, 4 spd T-10, 3.90 gear. Even with the extremely low compression, it would boil the tires from a dead stop or a roll and go, as far as you would want to till you let off. I had a 355 with a 10 to 1, 292H Comp cam, stock double hump heads, and a Weiand high rise dual plane, that ran excellent. The 396 would eat its lunch, much more torque, and ran excellent until about 5500 rpm, then leveled off. I would contribute that to stock valves, and low compression. It was very streetable with a lumpy idle. But this all was in a 69 Camaro. The Comp cam I had was a solid, so you could get by with a little more duration. It had 248/248 at .050", which wouldn't be much more than your 286H. I think it would run pretty good with the combo you have.

my first bbc was a 7.7 to 1 comp (118 cc heads,.040 gasket,.050 down the hole) 402 with a crane 272 cam ,stock low rise intake,650 double pumper,headers....in a 81 camaro with 2.56 gears and a dead th350 trans with a very weak 3 gear had to lift to let it shift.....it ran 14.40 @ 99 mph with 2.19 60 ft time..........being a single spinner i could spin that tire at will and i could lay into it for over a block smoking that tire..............fun car..........

your set up wont be a turd you got plenty of gear and more then enough stall so that would make any bbc seem HOT have fun

Sounds like a combo with 12 second potential to me. With the big valves, I think that you would pick up with more cam, but it should be a nice driver with almost a smooth idle and it should still pull hard to 5500rpm.
