Well guys I justed installed the summit turbos. I figured I would give them a try. I think they are a little quiet for my liking. What would be a good step up from the loudness wise? Thanks a lot.

I ran 40 series Flowmasters on my 72 for six years and thought it made a big difference in the sound and volume over the turbo style mufflers it replaced so I would reccomend them.

I have the Summit turbo mufflers on my 94 LT1 Caprice and they "sounded" pretty nice until the wife totaled the car 2 weeks ago. :( graemlins/angry.gif

They were on the car about a year, hollowed out cats, x-pipe. At first I thought they were too quiet. Over time they seemed to get noticeably loader. They had a nice deep rumble, still not super loud but could be heard. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Just ordered 2 40 series of ebay for 36.99 each! Hope this helps.

Darren, they get louder because the fiberglass shoots out the tailpipe.. One of my dynomax super turbos looked like a clogged dryer exhaust.
I still usem though.

I heard a set of spin techs behind my moderatley built 454 and I thought they were waaay to loud and high pitched, but I have an x-pipe now, and they were 14" mufflers that could have only been like 3" high..
Small to say the least.. would save alot of space and look alot cleaner than my wide-by-huge 20" case oval super turbos.
I think flowmasters are a love/hate relationship, and I don't like them, but what I think matters little here. You could try the dynomax ultra flows, some people like those alot, and they are quite a bit snappier.
Mustang people seem to like flowmasters and magnaflows, I see more dynomax ultra flows and other dynomax products on chevelles, although there are quite a few chevelles out there with flowmasters on there. They must sell alot of them for a reason.
Spin techs perform very well performance wise according to the dyno shop where I back to backed my muffs vs the spin techs they were trying.
alot of people say they have the right balance of cruise quiet vs. romp loud. I'd like a cloaking device personally.

ps. i have 3" plus x pipe. i had ordered 3" tailpipes because i thought they would be too loud. however with the motor(big block 496 ) up and finally running it really is on the quite side. i am suprised out much the x pipes quiet down a rowdy exhaust.

I will second the x-pipe quieting a loud exhaust. My true-dual 2" primary hooker, 3TT mandrel bent exhaust behind a healthy BB was you could hear me coming and going a few streets away through a forest at WOT.
Now people say you can hear it, but its just not as loud, it just "kinda goes" reminds them of a newer car.
I don't care for the sound itself, I care for the sound level.. The quiet is so relaxing..

Yeah, those Spin Techs are pretty damn small!!!...before I had bought them, I was torn between buying another pair of Flows, or going with Spin Tech, and possibly Magnaflow or Borla. Borla was tooo expensive, everybody and their mom has Flowmaster, Magnaflow seems to specialize in newer cars...and I really wanted to be different, so I went with Spin Techs...I've gotten a lot of compliments and people have said that my car sounds pretty mean and wicked....or they think I've got a big block....I think, personally, that's the ultimate complement when it comes to exhaust :D ...then the look on their face when I tell them "it's a 350" or "it's a small block" ...it's kool graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I just had Flowmaster 40 series put on my 72 Chevelle 396. Reason being, every damn muffler shop i went to advised flowmasters or borla. And if it helps more, the shop i went with was in 6 national magazines (guy showed em to me) SO that helped my dicision alot.
