Guys,
I removed my dash pad this weekend off my 71 non SS car. It seems like it has one center speaker location (no speaker was there). I have seen many people say they have "stereo" up front with a set of 4X6's. I'm guessing they mean mine is a "mono" set up then. My question is, what size speaker is this? I guess it is a 4X10, but I want to double check before I buy a new speaker.
PS~If it is a 4X10 anyone have an extra? Everything I see is sold in sets. That means someone would have one extra if they had the same issue I have.

You need to get another dash pad that has the stereo holes on the left and right sides..I think they are 4x6 and there is a special bracket to hold the speakers there..

Being an SS or not didn't matter, what determined the type of speakers was;
1. if the car had A/C the center speaker wouldn't fit because of the A/C duct work
2. If the car had stero, the two end speakers were used also.
The drivers side speaker is special in that the magnet is mounted so that it fits without hitting on the gauges.

Well I don't have AC, so I've got all kinds of room in the middle. My dashpad has one perferation right in the middle, so does that mean I can put my speaker there? If so, is it a 4X10?

I can't remember the speaker size off hand but that sounds right.
Someone else knows I'm sure.

if you are putting in a stereo system you need to have two speakers in the front. NPD sells a center speaker replacement that has two speakers mounted on an insert that fits in the stock speaker location. If you run one speaker with a stereo---good by speaker.

Ya I have the two hooked up in the rear. and just the one up front right now. I drove for about 2 hours then the radio shut off. It came back on later. I never thought about the issue being only one speaker hooked up in the front. Its just a basic aftermarked CD player. Good point. I will have to think about this. I was just planning on hooking up the speaker to one front set and leave the other one unhooked. Any suggestions? I'm checking out the NPD thing now.
