Brian,

Glad you like it!! I'm at work now............I'll give you a call when I get out of here later this afternoon!

Nick,

It's gettin there and I ended up using Torch Red. It was a little more red than the Viper Red that was on the car before. I also wanted something I could easily touch up for when I drop a wrench on it!!

My car was built with all the main interior pieces in it, including the back seat. This is a street car remember! As soon as I get the car home and the interior in it, I'll send you some pics!

If you have any questions or need additional pictures in the meantime, please feel free to ask!!

Zwede,

Glad you like the car!! I tried to look at other colors since it was red before, but red is the only color for this car!!

Thanks!!

Tony,
I was going between Torch Red & Victory Red also cause of the new color availability. I think I went the Victory cause that day they didnt have the Torch Red in stock!
Our cars sure are similar in configuration. graemlins/beers.gif I was wondering if your car is a real SS. Do you know?
Keep the the updates coming!!I will be following this one real close!!

Thanks again all, I appreciate the compliments!!

The car came home this afternoon and looks great!! I'll have to roll it outside shortly and take a few shots of it now that it's sanded, buffed and cleaned up!!

Nick,

I'm not familiar with Victory Red. What was it used on originally and how does it differ from the Torch Red?

My car is a true SS396 car, although I don't have any documentation. I'm still waiting for GM to release it one day!!

I've had the car since 1988 and did the original dissasembly on it years ago and made sure I kept all the factory parts. Even though it wouldn't be easy, I could still put it back to stock if I wanted to.

Thanks!

That looks awesome! Brings back memories of when I had mine in 50,000 pieces getting painted.

That car is getting a 580CI rat motor??

Jim,

Glad you like the car............it's been a long time coming and that 580 fits in there easier than I thought it would.

Once everything is buttoned up the car should look like a fairly stock street car........except for the parachute of course........ tongue.gif

What major city is Nazareth near? Once everything gets back together maybe we can hook up and I can check out your car in person!! My car was originally Astro Blue!!

Thanks,

JIM

Nazareth is near Allentown ans Easton, straight up the turnpike (476) then east on route 22 for about 15 minutes. My car is painted 67' Marina Blue Metallic. It used to be white with black stripes and before that it was black with white stripes.
.......580 cubes

Tony,
Victory Red is the red on the newer Monte Carlos, Grand Prix, ect. We used a black primer so it made it a tint darker that stock.
I cant believe how much your project parallels mine. I also have an SS but no documentation. I also have most of the stock parts to put it all back.
You have to tell me about G.M. releasing documentation. Whats up with that? How do I go about it? If you got the time. I know you got to be busy!! smile.gif Keep those updates coming! Thanks , Nick

Hi Tony Z, I love your choice of colors. Red is my favorite too. I noticed in the primered, work in progress shots the car had a 4" raised cowl hood, are you painting both types of hoods since the painted hood looks like a stock, no cowl piece? Just curious. My son's 4" raised cowl hood is a Glasstech with hinges molded in.

Jim,

Sounds like you aren't too far away...........once things settle down maybe we can get together at one point! You probably aren't gonna believe this but when I bought my car it was white with black stripes.............too funny!!

Nick,

Thanks for the heads up on the color............I was wondering where that came from as it's the first time I've ever heard of it!

The documentation problem is a rumor I've been hearing about for many years. Apparently, GM has original documents detailing how these cars were built years ago, but it's just too disorganized to release it. There has to be some truth to it though as you can get it through Pontiac for GTO's and stuff.

I'll keep the updates coming...........although I'll be asking a million questions cause I have alot to learn!!

Harold,

Glad you are still following along with the project and Red is my favorite too!! It came out better than I expected actually!! I was a little concerned about painting it the same color, but the difference in the car is day and night!

As for the hood, I'm only using the 4" cowl as the tall deck won't fit under the standard SS hood with the NOS plate. I'm thinking the 'hood' you are referring to in the above picture is actually the decklid!! My hood is a Glastek too and it's the last piece not painted!!

Any more questions, please feel free to ask!!

Thanks!!
