I need to find a dual plane intake that will fit under my stock 65 hood. From the advise I've received from many others I don't believe that a Edelbrock RPM will fit with its 5.25" carb pad height. So that leaves the Performer (4.85" pad height) and the GMPP 12363406 (4.45" pad height).
Are there any other dual planes that may fit?
Does anyone have experience with either of these manifolds.
My combo is:
65 Chevelle
454 +.030
781 oval ports with big valves
9.75:1 static compression
Lunati 272/282 solid flat tappet
850 DP
1-3/4" tube x 3" collector hedman's
350 Turbo with "tight" BTE 10" converter (Thanks Steve Oldani)
3.55 gear
Thanks

I have a 65 with a 427 topped off with an Edelbrock performer 2.0 intake. I don't know how old this intake is, it was used when I got it. I run a .580 inch lift cam and it works good on the street. My air cleaner was close to the hood so I went to a shorter element. I measured mine and just went to the parts store and started measuring different elements of the same diameter and found one that was 1/2 inch shorter than the one I had. It gave me just a little more clearance and I haven't had any problems. Hope that this is some help.

Your BB specs are very similar to what I am running in my '64. I replaced my single plane Torker mani to a dual plane Edelbrock Performer RPM last year. The hood clearance was nearly identical between the two. I use a 3" filter element with a drop base on a Holley HP. The filter nut is right at the stock hood. The only problem I have is header heat in such a tight compartment with a large engine. With no easy way to induct cold air, I am considering sleeving (not wrapping) the header tubes with Cool-It jackets. This really doesn't relate to your original question, just a thought.

64SS427, I've heard that an RPM should fit under a stock hood but have never talked to someone who has done it.
Any idea how similiar the hoods are between a 64 and 65?
How much drop is there to your air cleaner base and what motor mount frame stands did you use?
I hope the header wrap works for you, if not you could always send your headers to JetHot and get them coated. It really helps reduce header heat disspation and looks great too! Plus Team Chevelle members get a 20% discount!
