I am going to move this to performance as most of the dragracers tend to hang there.
My best with a tranny having trouble and a shock that came loose is 12.23 @109.

Deep in the 10's is my goal for the Blower car

The 70 chevelle ran 11.5s @115 with a pump gas 454. The 400 small block a best of 12.06 @111. The 68 chevelle ran a best of 14.9s with a stock 307 and bolt ons. I hope to get it to run mid 10s with the 533 in it.

13.355 @ 101mph with a 2.13 60'. My best mph was a 105.17 and my best 60' was a 2.085. My Napa electric fuel pump was cutting out on me in all runs. All of that was in 100% street trim, 1.72"/1.5" valves, 600 Edelbrock, stock torque converter, full tank of gas, no drag radials or slicks, and single track because the Furd posi iw warn out. I just put a 750 Holley on with milled choke horn, and Im sticking a Holley red fuel pump on. I think my daily driver should be in the 12's now, if that doesnt work a 2,400-2,600 stall and fixing the posi should do it for sure! graemlins/hurray.gif

i thought the clock starts ticking at green???Nope...you can have a reaction time of 4 days if you want, but until your tire leaves the beam the ET/ clocks don't start.

no bubble bursted here .. then whats with people always saying leave on the 3rd yellow if it makes no difference???

gared69
Apr 8th, 04, 12:47 PM
ET is based on how fast you went from start to finish. R/T is based on how well you reacted to the start of the race.

19Nova72
Apr 8th, 04, 12:54 PM
Even if its doesnt change your timeslip, its still fun to pretend like your really racing. That way hopefully you and the other guy leave the line at the same time and its a real race. Plus you don't want yur buddies to give you hell for a slow R/T

Lets pretend your car runs consistant 12.0 E.T.s,
and mine runs consistant 12.5 E.T.s, we line up,
your dialed in @ 12.0, I'm dialed in @ 12.5.

I get a .5 head start,
and leave with a .500 R.T. and your sleeping and have a 1.850 R.T., who gets to the line first ?

Me, thats who.
So even though your car is faster, I got the win light.

Hope that makes it more clear. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The reason you leave on the last yellow,
is that if you wait for the green,
by the time your brain says "Go",
and your foot reacts, you are already late.

1/8 9.693

Apr 9th, 04, 6:16 PM
you also need to take into account the time it takes for the car to react to your foot. I had to leave on the 2nd yellow to cut a good light because my engine was a little slow to react.

Apr 9th, 04, 6:36 PM
15.5 was my best...16.1 was my worst last year after making about 7 runs in the 70.

Pretty sad really considering its "300hp motor graemlins/clonk.gif -NOT!" and 3.73 gears :(
It really needs a different cam or something...With these rear gears it should be rocking!

I Was very dissapointed that my old 69 elky with the target master 350 and 3.42 gears was running faster at 15.1 & 15.2 and those two times were the only runs i got on it, with more time to try different launches I'm sure it would have been high 14s...

Oh well...

Hmmmm, the poll results don't follow the normal distribution ( bell curve). Looks like a bunch of use need to get it together and run some sub-12!!! The 11 second range is woefully underrepresented!

Bob West
Apr 9th, 04, 7:19 PM
The 10 second range seems to be overly represented to me...we're talking 1/4 mile here guys,,,not the 1/8th :D

1/4 miles times...I wish! :(
My motor/tranny reside in the shop in my backyard. The Chevelle is 8 miles away.

But, the introduction is coming soon... ;)

By the way, this was a pretty good idea for a poll.
But, I'm kinda bummed, because I thought I was a bigger dog, than I am.

My old 67 (375-396) ran 14.21 @ 107.7 MPH leaving it in 3rd thru the traps. It only read 100 on the speedometer meaning it would actually run much faster than the indicated 117 in 3rd. The 3.73 gears weren't low enough for this motor. It later ran 11.58 @ 117.64 with 4.88s, ZL-1 Chevy cam and Edelbrock dual plane with 850 double pumper carb. Oh and 1.88 exhaust valves. I still have the Chevelle and will put back to running if i can ever get my son to give one of my motors back.

Have not had my most recent combo to the track, but the last combo was set up as follow: .030 over 454, 049 oval ports (big valves, minimal port work) 9.2 SCR (6.3 DCR :( ), hydraulic flat tappet(246 @ .050", .577"), 850 Holley with a Strip Dominator intake and very restrictive 2.5" exhaust.

This old combonation was very mismatched and at the time of my last outing with this setup I still managed a 12.40. Later I found that the secondary float was stuck closed. Not to bad for running only on the primary's. :D
