Something about a unapproved bracket found in a pre race inspection. More Nascar Bull !!!!!!!!!!! Have i told you that Nascar sucks? They do

They used an unapproved wing bracket that Robin Pemberton said would have given him an advantage on the track. It was one of many that Nascar had given them when they were doing testing on the COT and Tony Eury said were inadvertantly put on the car by mistake. Pemberton disagreed and said it was a blatent violation so Jr and the team were both docked 100 points and given 100,000 dollar fines and Eury was suspended for 6 races and put on probation.

Yawn... It seems that nascar has turned into more of a soap opera than actually racing.

Bit extreme I'd say...

The teams make thier own brackets from a template that nascar gives them. It passed inspection before qaulifying then failed the pre race inspection. Seems it was changed in between the two. Jr. wasn't fined, his crew chief was.

what difference can a stupid bracket make?

The angle of the spoiler can create more downforce to make the car handle better.

Cars that handle better are to be avoided at all costs.

Did JR. with that particular race? I don't think he did, so, how did that make his car better? So, are all the cars inspected before and after the race?

It was actually found after qualifying, and before the race... I think he qualified 22nd or something, so obviously it didn't help much.

Being the first infraction on a "COT" car, NASCAR wanted to set an example... don't worry though, the fines and penalties will be dropped down to a mere slap on the wrist next time when it's Chad Knaus that gets caught. ;)

Funny they don't tell you what exactly was wrong about it. They tell you what the "approved" bracket does and yet do not really say the "unapproved" bracket did anything different. Pemberton said he believed it would have given Jr an advantage but comes ut short of saying positively it would have. Typical Nascar double speak! Sure didn't help in qualifing. I know you say they cahanged it between qualifing and the pre-race inspection but I have yet to see that printed. Funny part is they did not send him to the back of the field...oh, wait, that is for Jimmy when they don't take points!:D

On Speed they said they changed it before qualifying.

i wish NASCAR had a good tech section on their website where you could go to do some hardcore reading about what makes the cars do what they do.
every time something like this came up, they could show some pics of the offending parts and explain just what kind of advantage it gives- all without watering it down so a 1st grader can understand it.
they always say they have some of the smartest fans out there- so why not cater to the intelligence of the audience instead of catering to the non car guy fans that like to see the shiny cars crash at high velocities..

Excellent point. I might actually start watching again if that happened!

I think it would be cool to have the NACSAR Illegal Parts Museum. There could be a whole Smokey section, and of course the Chad Knaus wing.

I agree, but 99% of the "car guy" fans who would have any interest in tech-info have been turned off the sport in the last few decades.

I have yet to find any info on suspension changes on the COT... I guess we need to assume they still use the crappy truck-arm setup, even though they had the perfect opportunity to improve the cars dramatically with a 3-link or decoupled torque-arm setup.

when a COT gets upsides down at a big track, we will see that they are identical to the old car from the bottom.
for what they do, the truckarm setup is a very good and very durable setup. to change it would add a whole bunch of costs on top of what the teams already have to spend for the changeover- complete truckarm setups complete with rear ends are readily available from many aftermarket suppliers- and would give the bigger teams even more of an advantage from the standpoint if figuring everything out.
i just wish NASCAR would do more for the true "car guy" fans that built the sport- like maybe not talking down to us all the time.

Is that Chad Knaus wing, like a hallway,or wing like C.O.T?:DThey'd have a bunch of shocks also, remember when the Hendricks teams got busted with all the illegal shocks, within the last couple of years?Or were they not "illegal" since they didn't get penalized/fined?They'd have D.W.s nitrous bottle he got busted with also.Lots of neat stuff to be seen for sure at the "Interpretation of the Rules Museum".

That would be the Junior Johnson Museum of Illegal Parts wouldn't it? I always wonder why nobody ever says anything about him when they talk about cheaters. Although Junior was the one responsible for putting the truckarm on the cars originally. Or how about the time Richard (yes "The King") got busted with an entire illegal motor? Wasn't that a hemi he put in that Super Bird?
