10secBu Dec 23rd, 03, 9:14 AM Times are in the sig below. That's a 414 ci pump gas bbc with no power adders at a race weight of 3580 lbs w/driver. It's also raced with a full street exhaust which consists of a 3 1/2" in/3" out Dr. Gas X-pipe leading into 20" long Dynomax welded UltraFlow mufflers and terminating with 3" custom made tail pipes exiting over and behind the rear tires.
I full expect (and pray) the ET's will be a solid two tenths quicker this coming season with a few minor tweaks.

Rich Rich,
I'm currently still running the 35 spline spool/axles. If and when funds allow, I'd like to swap that setup out for a 33 spline Eaton posi setup...plus axles of course.
Right now, that is kinda low on the priority list.

Rain Man Dec 26th, 03, 2:46 AM I'm dating myself but we have to go back to the 1970 NHRA Winter Nationals. I had a '65 Corvette
coupe with a 396/425 hp original motor that I modified w/ stock bore 12.5-1 pistons, Engle roller cam w/ a .525 lift, Crane roller rockers, factory transistor ignition, 4.88 rear, and 8" Goodyear slicks which were the widest that I could run inside the stock wheel wells according to NHRA rules. I mention these items to compare them with todays technology. The car was fully dressed and ran B/MP. It was right on the cusp of the 7.99 c.i./lb requirement for that class.
It ran a best of 10.84 @ 128 mph. Dick Landy won
the B/MP class that year in his 1970 Dodge hemi with a 10.60 ET @ 126 mph. He was able to run at least 10" wide slicks within his wheel wells.

This photo was the 7.160 run at Dallas. Nasty hot afternoon in the 80 degree area. The 60' time was a little slow since it hit the body of the car not the front tires. When the front end stayed down it was usually a 1.03 60' time. 458" Steve Schmidt BBC with Pontiac Big Chief heads, made 1053 hp. Here is what it did before the wheelie bar...
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/205791/wheelie.jpg
I would have to dig up the slip from the funny car I drove after this which is about three tenths quicker, with a 388" Rodeck smallblock with -12 Brodix heads and 400+ more pounds of weight, but it did have a belt-driven hoodscoop on alky, lol. Wayyyyyy more fun to drive! Nothing like near 1/4-mile burnouts!

pcs0snq Dec 27th, 03, 9:32 PM Hey Steve it sure makes a big difference running on a National event prepared track, don't it? We run a HUGE Goodyear D2032's, just to get down our local track. graemlins/waving.gif
Oldani Motorsports Dec 27th, 03, 9:45 PM No doubt! I tested here at home at Cedar Falls on some Pro Stock tires and barely carried the front end 6". Then went and put on the D2323 13 x 33's and ran them at Topeka and Dallas that year. First pass on them with no wheelie bar is shown above. To run those low 7-second passes takes some track. Horton builds some nice cars too!

Oldani Motorsports Dec 28th, 03, 10:39 AM Lift...whadda ya mean lift!!! Lol Mike, neat pix. The 388" motor in the FC came from Mr. Santos. It was the most steady, reliable motor that ran in the group we raced with. I laughed at the BBC and Hemi guys tossing out rods and killing motors running high 6's. Each pass I checked the spring pressure and lash, pulled the screen out of the filter to inspect it, and watched the other racers fix stuff, lol. It was such a simple combo. Rodeck block, -12 heads, and we only ran an 80A pump and nozzles in the hat to slow it down, plus a 6:71 at less than 15 over. No problems making it go fast with a bigger blower and pump and more overdrive when we wanted to. We never punished it, running a 3.70 gear and shifting at 6500. It was near bulletproof. Rick knows his stuff, it $ucked to see NHRA take that combo away. I always liked seeing him thrash the Hemi guys with that little motor. Fremont was an awesome track, I spent the whole summer of 76 in the south bay area with relatives and went to Fremont many times while there. The PDA race, 16 car fuel altered shows, etc. Saw Jim Bucher launch a blower into the airport next to the track, lol.
Wolfplace Dec 28th, 03, 1:34 PM Hi Steve,
Yea, Very cool folks. George Santos (Ricks father) has probably forgotton more than most of us will ever know about making a small block run.
When they had Dave Uyehara build this car to fit me it started out as an injected B fuel deal. Ran 7.00's & about 200
First engine with a blower made a burnout & split the block from the mains up through the cam tunnel,,,,,,,,
Next one had a bit less compression & lead :D
It was a stock block, stock crank ( that lasted about 2 races) & Brodix heads & ran 6.60's
That 217mph was with 358 inches & 4.56 gears
Do the math as we didn't have no stinkin tach, didn't have time to use the thing anyway. Had an oil pressure guage on the engine & if George said it had pressure on the starting line it was good to go :D Your supposed to be able to tell when to shift whithout all them damn distractions anyway. smile.gif
But I do have some video of a small block where the only thing holding the crank up is the blower belt !!!
We won the division when it was div 6&7 combined with that little mouse in 83.
I saw Rick & his brother Jeff at PRI this year. Haven't seen him in a few years. Really good to see him again. Too bad George wasn't there with him.
Rick started driving in 1985 when he got old enough to see over the cowl :D
Of course I like to say "I taught him good" :D
Did you know Rick built the last Oakwood Homes chassis. He learned the chassis stuff from Dave Uyehara (Sp?)
