: Powertrax problems
MO_chevelle Jun 13th, 04, 3:38 PM Ive had my powertrax for about 1000 miles in my 8.2" rearend. I have the new No slip or whatever it is called, the one that is supposed too be quieter. I had a lot of trouble installing it, it turned out some pins were not drove in place far enough but I found out after I broke a driver on it. I got it in and it made more noise than I would like but everyone has insured me that it is normal. It seems like it has been making a lot more popping noises when I turn lately and I notice that when I take off, one of the black marks is usually darker. I will try too find my check block and look at it sometime but I was just curious if I should worry about one of the wheels spinning more than the other. Thanks.
4MyChevelles Jun 13th, 04, 6:12 PM I have a powertrax in my 69 makes no noise and went in with no trouble at all.
they make a nice mini spool ..I would call the tech line and ask them what might be wrong.
What year/make SS emblem is that on the front of your 300 looks like it supposed to be there
turbo Jun 14th, 04, 9:48 AM Mark I had similar problems with the powertrax no slip in my 8.2 10 bolt. See the posts here for more info.

BTW I never did get mine to work, I took it back out. Now I am wondering if I should try the Lockright model or just go to an eaton posi
KS64SS Jun 14th, 04, 7:58 PM I have the Lock Right Locker in my 8.2" with 3.36 gears, supposed to make more noise than the no slip, runs fairly quiet unless I try to gas around tight corners fairly fast then it's like a spool, the tires chirp a bit. A buddy has the Lock Right in his 67 and has been putting over 600 horsepower through it for over 2 yrs now on slicks. He blew the pinion yoke out of it a while back on a launch, but the LR was unhurt. If you take it back out try the Lock Right, you won't be disapointed. I personally think the LR is much stronger than the no slip. You can kinda tell from the advertising that the no slip is designed to be gentler for more daily driven vehicles while the LR was for brute strength 4x4's and muscle cars. Sorry for the long winded post. graemlins/waving.gif
turbo Jun 15th, 04, 8:08 PM I was thinking of trying the lockrite but since I couldn't get the no slip to work right
I am a bit afraid that maybe its something with my rear end even though I still am pretty sure the no slip I had was defective. Sounds like lots of people have good lock with the lock right.( ijust don't feel like tearing into it for a real posi unit right now because then I know I am going to end up spending money for the new gears I would like to have.
mr 4 speed Jun 15th, 04, 8:55 PM I run a Powertrax Lock Right in my 2.73 geared 12 bolt..close to 6K miles,no problems,and I bought it used.My works as described,KS64SS hit it right on the head.
mc71454 Jun 15th, 04, 9:28 PM Running my Lock Right for the 6th season..No Complaints here ! graemlins/thumbsup.gif I just bought another one at a swap meet new in the box to keep around.
JRS70LS5 Jun 16th, 04, 10:39 AM If one of the stripes are darker than the other I would think this has to do with how the rear is planting the tires not the power trax itself.
MO_chevelle Jun 17th, 04, 12:55 AM Thanks for all of the info, I will call tech support when I get a chance just too make sure

turbo Jun 22nd, 04, 8:57 AM Well I was going to just wait and get a posi unit for mine since I had trouble with the powertrax no slip but I decided to try the original powertrax since so many guys here have had good luck with them. I just put it in and it works great, no problems at all. So I am sure that the other one was defective. I went to the strip last week when it was still an open diff and was running street tires and it was a joke, I had no traction at all spun the tire for over 100 feet.
I was hiiting 100 mph but could only get 14.3 sec
I can't wait to go back now with the locker and some drag radials!
mc71454 Jun 22nd, 04, 9:20 AM Good, You will be happy !!!
