Greetings!
My title pretty much asks the question:
Does anyone know the correct screw type and size for
the 1965 Chevelle Malibu S/S 4 - speed Center floor console?
Thanks.

Hi Rudy,
This won't be much help, but I just installed new screws on my '65 automatic console. I bought one of the 'interior screw kits' from a reliable vendor that was a joke. it only contains about 1/2 of the visible screws needed. The ones listed and packaged for the console were the same ones for the inside rear view mirror bracket. It was wrong, they were a bit too short where the two consoles pieces overlap and two stripped. (arggghhhrrr) I went through every screw I owned and came up with some that worked and then I took them off and polished them. Just thought I'd share this in case someone suggests buying one of those 'kits'.

Thanks Tom.
I did consider doing just that.
So, what did you end up doing?

I ended up using some unused screws from the interior padded side pillars of a '68. They were long enough (maybe longer than needed, but the length doesn't show) and polished up nice.

Rudy,
If you have a hardware store (not necessarily a big box but a real hardware store) near you that carries screws and fasteners of every type in little bins and drawers, look for stainless screws about 3/4" to 1" long for this. The stainless will polish nicely to work with the chrome on the console. Oh, and get the slightly rounded head (Phillips, of course), not the flat heads. Worked for me.

L79 Man,
3/4" to 1 " long?
That seems too short?
What diameter screw?
Thanks.

I use approx 1" screws for the front attach point, the same length for the attach point where the front and tail peice overlap and a little shorter screws for the tail section attach (under the light lens, I believe). I am not totally aware of the diameter but use a screw that will just fit through the console holes. Since they are going into sheet metal mounting brackets and these brackets often get a bit stripped due to the consoles being in and out of the cars so much, even if you use a larger diameter than original, they will "self-tap" when you thread them in and give a tight fit. Just my experience.
BTW, do you still need an Assembly Manual? I have an extra I would send you for just the price of the shipping--still in the shrink wrap.
