I was hoping you could suggest one of your cams for my motor. The car has been in the low 12's and looking to kick it up a notch. My current set up is:
383
5.7 rods
flat tops w/ valve relief(deck @ 009)
11.2:1 C/R W/AFR 195 heads
current cam is a comp 292H.
rpm intake w/a advenger 770.
3.73 out back
Hyd or solid? Pro's and cons for my set-up?
The car is street driven on weekends, some track time. Please let me know if you need any more info.Thanx in advance for the help.Sory for the long post.

OneBadd66,

How is your CC 292H handling the 11.2:1 CR?
Are you running 'good gas'?
Except for the 3.73 rear, the engine is very much like some favorite oval track piece.
Because of the 3.73 rear, probably the biggest solid cam I'd put in would be a Lunati 40199(a SBC special solid grind), grind number 01-UF18-UF8-10-A01. This cam is 280/284 at .020, 247/251 at .050, 159/162 at .200, .525/.530 valve lift, and 110 LSA. It has very good power starting in the mid-2000s up to peak power about 6200, and pulling to 7000. You have to make sure you have a good fuel system with this one.
It will have a very flat and broad torque curve....

Harold,The 292 seems ok.Good throdle responce.I do have to keep the temp below 185,or it will start to detonate.I was going to put 6an line from the tank all the way up.I also have a mach. fuel pump.Do you think I should change to a elec. with the new cam? Also could you shed some light on how hard it is to keep the solids cams in adjustment? I hear so many stories.

L88,I have tweeked the carb,timing,curve,plugs,
etc,The science is about 80% according to time slip data.Still have some to go.

Thanx for the responces.........

OneBadd66,

Do not use the #6AN line, use #8AN instead, and get a good mech pump like the Carter 172gph one. You can run my regular-lash cams down to .016-.018 hot without hurting anything other than less bottom-end. Some people say that's all right, because the tend to have excessive bottom-end anyway. The tighter lash causes the intake valve to close later, and helps lower cylinder pressure, lowering detonation. My cams' higher port velocities translate into more swirl inside the cylinder, and that also lowers detonation.
These cams love 12.5:1 CR when they can get racing gas.......
