What kind of mufflers and pipes to use? Ive got stocker pipes with an older model flow master mufflers, and some shorty headers I put on. The pipes are too old, one fell appart tonight so I think I'll redo everything. Probably do it all myself now that I bought a MIG. Theres this new X pipe I hear about also? But mainly Im just curious if and what is better performing and sounding that a Flowmaster muffler? I especially like how pipes come out right before the rear tires, a different kind of beafy look, anyone? :D

I like Dynomax's welded oval UltraFlows. They sound so much better than flows.

my whole exhaust cost about the same as one flowmaster muffler. I took the reducer and welded a 48"X 2 1/4 on each and two cherry bomb turbo IIs. I think the total was about $55. There's the cheap way! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I had Borla Turbo mufflers on a previous '69 SS. They have a great "classic" sound. Also, they are covered by Borla's 1 Million Mile warranty. What more could you want?

Yeah Kragen has Cherry bombs for pretty cheap they looked kinda fun, either those or Borlas. Are there any that would be BAD to use?

Has anybody used the Dynomax round welded muff's. They say race use only, just curious how loud they are compared to say 2 chamber flowmasters.

Can someone explain how the chambers work and perform? smile.gif Also should I install an X or H pipe when I redo all of this?

I have Dynomax Race magnum bullets if thats what you are reffering to. I use Hooker comp headers then 2 1/2" pipe and turndowns with mine and they are real loud, I have set off a few car alarms and you can literally hear me before you see me. I use to have 2 chamber 40 serries Flowmasters with turndowns and the Dynomax are way louder, they have a slight crackle to them similar to Glasspacks unlike the tin can sound of the Flowmasters. IMO I would not use the Race magnum bullets on a daily driver cause when you lay into it they scream.

I know several guys that were sent home from the strip with bullets. Way to loud for some strips that require mufflers.

I run the 4" bullets on my 69 Nova with a healthy 355. They are VERY loud. :D They're only about 12" long, and 4" round. I run an "H" pipe, and 2 1/2" pipes. I love em....but then, I don't drive it everyday.
When I start it in the garage, stuff on the walls in the house rattles
They sound a lot "deeper" than glass pacs, and don't have near the "crackel" When you hammer onm it, it almost sound like open headers graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Where should I mount the mufflers if I bring the tips out in fron of the rear tires? Should there be a certain amount of pipe from header to muff's or muff's to the tips? I tihnk I want to run those little skinny mufflers, are those usually single chamber? I have Flowmasters now not sure what they are but they sound good, a tad bit mild for my taste, and stock pipe which really needs to go asaaap. :D

Will the cherrybomb turbo's perform better than the flowmasters? The ultraFlows are a little pricey for me right now  PLus cherry bombs are really skinny and would fit right up for how I want it mounted.

Hey ZAC how do they cherrybombs 2's run? What were you running before? Comparison? smile.gif

Also what size pipes should I run? Ive got 2 1/4 now probably going to stay with that? For a mild performance 350 with shorty headers?

i picked up .2 in ET when i ditched my Cherry Bomb Super Turbos for Flowmasters on a mild 400sb. mufflers were the only thing i changed, and they were both 2 1/2". the Ultraflos are supposed to be better than the Flowmasters, so what does that tell you about the CBST's? the Ultraflos are only around $65-$70 apiece aren't they? that's about as cheap as it gets for a performance muffler of that quality.

A good place to put the mufflers is under the back seat area. The floor steps up here and allows more room under the car there... Them just reroute the pipe from the outlet to whereever you like...

Hey Phil, I was running 18" glass packs on 1 5/8" pipe with manifolds. it is just as loud now, I think it's louder than before when I romp on it but the idle is about the same. I can't say anything about performance since I have a completely new engine/trans/exhaust. I like the sound alot better than the glass packs. It sounds very aggressive and deep. it still sets alarms off which made me happy. I think a 36" pipe then muffs then an angled pipe out the side would be about perfect for what you want to do. it also blows smoke away when traction testing. hope this helps. you won't be disapointed with the cherries I think

Definately going to go between the cherries and the dynomax magnum bullets, sounds like a good sound and power. There basically the same price too under $40 a pop which is good for me! Thanks for all the tips on mounting and products guys graemlins/thumbsup.gif You dont think either of these will be too loud for nearly everyday driver? :D The magnum bullets say "just for racing" too loud? not street legal?

I dont mind ordering from Summit but does anywhere in town carry the dynomax bullets? Kragen, tognottis, napa, autozone?

I have 2.5" Dynomax Bullets and an H pipe on a 461 Olds. They are pretty quiet at idle, but on the gas they scream. They are not too bad on the highway, either. No problems from the cops so far. ;)

i've never had the bullets on anything mild before, but with the 3 1/2" bullets i had behind my 454, well let's just say that it would give a sprint car a run for it's money on the decibal level. smile.gif

It's about time for Summitt's (it seems) annual 1/2 price sale on dynomax products. if you can wait until Feb I think.

Im really tempted for the cherrybombs now. But it sounds like flowmaster outperforms them from what ive read  Ive grown tired of these old flows though, and then again I dont know what series I have either. Flowmasters are strange they just have there pat. number on em' I know how to tell. Anymore combos or ideas? graemlins/hurray.gif

Great huh? tongue.gif Yeah the paint isnt as flattering in person. People love it as the gas stations though! Im getting ready to repaint her, maybe a little lighter blue. IT's been dropped a little in the front and had alot of work done since that picture. Do you have any of yours?

Anyone know anything about Flowtech RedHots? They look a little like cherrybombs or glasspacks. Im really having problems deciding what to use

To find out what series you have you can go to flowmasters site. Then there should be this .pdf file thats like a muffler guide and if you scroll down it will show like numbers of the series and you just match it with urs

Thats a nice looking muffler, is that what you use?

Since My muffler fell off :D I re-welded it, not sure if it is a coincidence but I sometimes get backfires, sounds like just off the side I welded. Could it be from that? I forgot what can cause a backfire.
