: 14" rim ok for disk?

I remember someone telling me you had to run a minimum of 15" rim with disk breaks, is this true? I did a search but could not find any information about this. I currently have 14" and I have the budget to switch to disks but not to buy the new rims and tires I want.

TIA

Sweet! I do not remember where I heard that from but now I need to get off my butt get my car started, then do the break swap.

Just looked at your year, I have an A body I hope that does matter.

14'' rims can clear a stock disk brake set up. I was concerned about it myself when I had my brakes and frontsuspension done, but so far so good

Some will, some won't. My 14" original steel wheels would not fit after I swapped to discs. Didn't care much for them anyway, my new 15" rallies look better. :)

I have the old stock "SS" style rims.

You have to be careful with the caliper brackets you use. Original equipment caliper brackets will work with 14" rims, but some/most of the aftermarket caliper brackets won't work. They're too big. I found this out the hard way.

I have CPP aftermarket brackets.

67 and earlier steel rims (plain) will not fit disc brakes. In 67 if you ordered disc brakes the 14 x 6 rally wheel was part of the package because of the plain steel rim not fitting.

So how about A body?

I've got 14's on mine, but they are aftermarket rims. My original steel wheels would not fit. I have factory single piston calipers.

It's brakes.

Yes you can use the 14" wheels with factory front disc brakes.
But you must use a disc brake wheel
drum brake wheels are different and will not work.
If you have factory SS wheels, they will work fine with factory front disc brakes.

EDIT......I looked at your sig.......FWIW, the wheels you have are not original for 1971. They were only used in 1969-70.

Don't break your brakes;)

lol sorry, typo.

I guess I have the drum wheels so that sucks. More money I have to save before I can do the swap.

no, they are not drum wheels.
they are 14 x 7 disc brake type wheels
at least the best I can tell from your pictures.
The wheels look very dark in the pictures

If I were you I'd be more concerned that the aftermarket caliper brackets won't work with the wheels you have.
Why don't you just mock it up and see if it clears
