I always put 10w-30 in all my cars. my 350 always seems to burn/leak oil pretty good. can someone explain how the different weights affect the engine? can oil loss be slowed or prevented just through the type of oil?

A heavier weight oil is thicker, I think your engine would get "more miles per quart" with a heavier weight oil like straight 30, 40 or 50. Being thicker its a little slower getting by worn rings and valve guides.

I don't like engine oil additives, but I have had luck and have seen others as well have success with a product called CD2 for oil burning engines. 2 containers of that and straight 40 weight oil and I think your engine will almost
stop using oil. This is not permanent, and is only a band aid, but it does work, until you can rebuild the engine. Just my .02 worth!

Or just add a can or bottle of either good old "STP" OR "Motor Honey" viscosity thickeners on top of the oil you already have in your motor and then judge the results.....

I used to use STP in all my old oil burners/leakers through the years to slow them down..

I have even used the little oil burner sparkplug adapters/spacers to keep the cylinders in my '57 firing all the time when I was a kid...

Never did think the old "Fire Injector" plugs were worth the "snake-oil" asking price over a good set of Autolite sparkplugs in my '57 and my Camaro so I never bit for a set...

Nowadays, the newer motors seem to last so well that I just add some good old Marvel Mystery Oil, (great top-oil stuff), every so often to clean them out some..

Add half a 16oz bottle to the oil and the rest into the gas tank... (But that's me!!)..
