Any improvement in e.t. goint to front drag tires over radial front tires? How do they handle under normal street driving? I'm guessing the main reason is to run bias fronts with the bias slicks? My car handles fine with radials on the front.

Bob,
I run Moroso Drag fronts and have gotten very good sevice from them. However these and other brands of drag front tires are very lightweight and are not at all suitable for street use. In fact I believe they say right on the tire race track use only and that they are not DOT approved.

The only gain in E.T would be with a larger diameter tire. This would allow you to shallow stage picking up sixty foot. Faster sixty foot means faster E.T.
If you know how your car reacts at the tree you can pick a tire to help with the 60' and reaction time. Thats what the "drag front tires" are really for. Being able to have several circumference tires in the pizza cutter width. If your not a bracket racer just buy whatever tire looks good and don't excpect any gain.

I wonder how much difference a 2" taller tire would make. Currently running 165R's...looks good but too short.

A smaller tire makes for quicker R/T's when shallow staged.
If you deep stage tire size doesnt matter.
A larger tire will help you hook better, by raising the front and improving weight bias.

The local tracks around here do not allow deep staging. Hey Brian, how tall are Eds front tires?

he runs a 27" tall front.
Since you are a shallow stager, i would try and stay with the shorter front if possible.
The looser suspension that you are planning, while it will help you to hook better, it may slow your R/T's causing the need to tighten up on the RPMs on the starting line.
BTW, i believe Ed mentioned that his drag front/skinny front wheels were worth .04 over his street radial, and wider front wheels.

Where do ya think Ed picked up et, it certaintly wasn't from wieght reduction, or ride hieght change for wieght transfer. It was in chopping 60' by gettting a run at the 60' beam. No where did I say a bigger tire helps R/T. It does effect R/T but the question was reducing ET.
Do you even know why a bigger diameter tire can lower 60' It has to do with the track Timing system and thats it period!
Shallow stage with a large diameter tire will net better E.T. (NOT RT) than a smaller dia.
Basically you need to know how to drive a tree to see any gain. If you could pick up .04 cause of better wieght transfer you've found a speed secret.
And by the way most use a shorter tire to deep stage to cut the tree as tight as possible. Im not even going to go into tire size and R/T. There are several factors in how the car reacts, driver, and track. There is no right size for R/T. However for ET the biggest dia possible.
