I am putting the rear package tray in my 70 and just have a simple question.
The tray and insulation is made by PUI and it seems like it is a little too large. (Length wise) The tray is contoured on the ends to fit the deck just like the insulation but I can't get it in. It states for 69-72 chevelle.
Does this thing need to be trimmed?
The insulation fits alright.
Has anyone used the PUI tray here and had to trim it.
Thanks

Not sure if mine was PUI, but it folder up on the ends. Mine actiually had perferations at the places where I folded it.
My sail panels are not in yet, but they will cover the folded up ends of the tray.

There is preforations on the ends.
So I should bend the board at the preforations and then install?

Right.
You should probably measure first just to make sure they are correct, but yes that's what I did and that's what others have said on this topic here before.
There's also a front flap on the board that should tuck down behind the top part of your back seat.
If you look in my signature you might just be able to see the ends of my package tray folded up :D
No seriously, that's how it goes in there!
I installed a new PUI package tray in a '69 a couple months ago. It fit fine but installing one is a lot more involved than you would guess. Besides removing the rear seat halves, the tray ends go under the sail panels, which necessitate their removal. That requires the removal of the rear window molding and lower plastic corners. Also requires the partial removal of the headliner side moldings.

Well that works for me because I have the whole interior out and just started re installing. I guess I am doing this right because I installed the sound deadener first then carpet and now I am working on the divider board and package tray.
Thanks

Or you can cheat like I did: Cut some off the folded ends, bend the tray slightly and it will slide up behind the sail panels just fine. Then you slide it back into the recess under the window. I cut a little bit at a time to make sure that it wouldn't end up too short, but it worked on the second try.

When I installed mine I did it without the rear window in, it made it allot easier to work back there. Your right it does take some work to get it in. when I installed mine I did the factory cutout for oem speaker grills, the factory rear defrost and I also have the rear vigilite system that had to be installed. I did this all one afternoon and when I was finished I went in and got a cold beer out of the fridge and when I return I saw that a bird flew by and took a crap right on the cardboard and ruined it. So I had to rip it all out and start over again.

Oh that evil liquid... no I'm not referring to the beer!
After that incident I'm sure you went back in and had another one :beers:
Good story!
