: Mallory Rev Limiting HEI Distributors- Finally!
RobbMc Apr 8th, 04, 10:34 PM Nearly a year after they were supposed to hit the market, the Mallory 75 series billet rev-limiting HEI distributors started shipping today.
I have been running one of the prototypes on my daily driver for about 9 months with no problems. It replaced my Unilite and Hyfire IV box.
The 75 series share nothing with the Mallory 85 series HEI except the cap and rotor. Where the 85 series is a budget replacement for a stock HEI, the 75 series is a true performance distributor: all billet aluminum housing, ball bearing shaft support, adjustable Mallory YH mechanical advance, adjustable vacuum advance and a built-in Hyfire with adjustable rev limiter.
The part number for a Chevy V8 is 7548201. The 75 series is also available for most american V8.

Silver69Camaro Apr 8th, 04, 10:37 PM What delayed its release to the public?
kboorman Apr 8th, 04, 10:40 PM I always like to hear about new products, but why did that sound like an ad?
kboorman Apr 8th, 04, 10:42 PM Man, I must still be set on KILL after that ebay SS vin tag thing (Bench Racing thread) :D
RobbMc Apr 9th, 04, 12:55 AM Silver,
The 75 series were first announced in last year's catalog but with all the other new products we were working on, the 75 series was put on the back burner. We built and tested prototypes during the last year but manufacturing only recently had time to make the parts and get production started.
Kboorman,
I hesitate everytime I think about posting because I don't want to sound like an ad. But if it makes any difference, I only post regarding products that I like and helped design and personally run on my own cars. Since Mallory does little advertising I just like to let other enthusiasts know when we have something new that I think is a good product. If I won't run it on my own car, I won't mention it and I will tell what I don't like about it if asked.
I also try to always answer any questions any forum members have about Mallory/Erson products. I don't know if that makes up for posting an "ad" but I figure some people may like getting answers directly from those on the inside.

Do you happen to see T Willy up your way much?
RAT454 Apr 9th, 04, 1:10 AM Robb, I have a Comp 9000 around 12 years old with the YS style advance on my BBC. Finding out that this is an outdated advance that is no longer supported by Mallory. I'd like to play with the adv. curve with springs. ARe the springs in the 29014 kit the same?
I opened up the dist. for the first time recently and found a broken spring  . Need a replacement.
Thanks.
Tom.
RobbMc Apr 9th, 04, 2:28 AM Wolf,
T Willy stops by now and then. I think I've seen him two or three times since I started at Mallory 10 years ago. He hasn't worked here during that time so I don't really know him personally but people who know him tend to grin when they talk about him so he must be quite the character.
Rat,
The YS advance was introduced at the same time as the C9000 distributors and was quickly replaced by the YT which was later replaced by the YH. The YT and YH are very similar and use the same springs. The YH is more durable and more adjustable than the YT. The YS was, well, not very good. It's difficult to adjust, fragile and doesn't respond much to spring changes. You can use the spring kit 29014 but I would recommend updating to the YH advance. The shaft is the same and if you send the distributor in to Mallory, the service department can remove the YS advance and replace it with a YH advance, probably for around $30 or so. They'll even set it up with any curve you request.
CDN SS Apr 9th, 04, 10:31 AM RobbMc ... Mallory question , is Mallory coil 29216 compatible with the HyFire VI box ?? BTW your new product info is appreciated Thanks Bill
kboorman Apr 9th, 04, 10:38 AM RobbMc - don't mind me, just having a no hair day. I mean a bad hair day. Kirk
fatlip Apr 10th, 04, 7:13 PM Im looking at this distributor at summit and it dosent say anything about a built-in Hyfire with adjustable rev limiter. Im looking at MAA-8548201C, it has the coil.
Any feed back would be great.
Thanks,
fatlip Apr 11th, 04, 8:16 AM I moved it back to the top.
Thanks,
Bomber '67 Apr 11th, 04, 12:06 PM Rick, the distributor you are looking at in Summit is an 85 series, not the 75 series that RobbMc originally posted about.
Oh yeah, the cheapie 85 series is what I am running in my 496.
Thomas
RobbMc Apr 11th, 04, 10:05 PM CDN,
Yes, the 29216 will work with a Hyfire IV and VI but not with a Hyfire VII.
Fatlip,
What Bomber said.
406_Chevelle Apr 18th, 04, 8:08 PM Where can I find this online? How much should I expect to pay???
Thanks,

RobbMc Apr 18th, 04, 11:30 PM The 75 series are in the Mallory catalog at www.mrgasket.com. (http://www.mrgasket.com.) Go to downloads, Mallory catalog, distributors.
Not sure if any internet Mallory dealer has them in stock yet but you might try www.centuryperformance.com. (http://www.centuryperformance.com.) That sight tends to get new Mallory products quickly. Any Mallory dealer can order any Mallory product if they don't have it in stock yet.
Prices vary but should be around $375.
