This is my first post on team Chevelle so a big hello to everyone :hurray:
Hopefully i've posted this in the right section Mod's, if not I apologise and could you move it to the right section please.

I have been a member at a couple of other forums for years and was referred here to see if I can squeeze you guy's for a bit of info.
I have a pair of valve covers and am trying to work out what they're from.
On the same engine that the covers came from is an aluminium intake which suits, Chevelle 396/375?,Corvette 396/425 and Impala 396/425. I don't know if they're both from the same engine, that's is what I'm trying to work out.

To the valve covers, they are chrome and seem very solid and not some cheesy chinese knock-off. They both have two holes and no plug wire brackets or brackets for temp wire. they also have the baffle inside and drippers and a reinforcement strip on the outer edge where the four bolts are.And both are slanted back on one end with a small crease at the bottom of the slanted edge.

Any help would be appreciated:D If anyone can help and needs more or better pics, please post and I'll get on it.

cheers
Jim

I read somewhere on this board that only the high HP engines got the drippers inside the VC's. Like a 375hp 396. :)-

My '70 402 covers had drippers, wire loom brackets and clips for sending unit type wires.

So I know they are NOT original covers off of a '70 SS Chevelle.

Welcome to the site Jim!

Drippers were not limited to the hi horse engines, and I believe that type of relief for the brake boosters only showed up in '70, other than that I don't know. Maybe that will help.

All BB valve covers from GM had the drippers in them, that could be from a corvette. They had the large relief area like yours because of the smaller engine compartment.

Wheelhop, i have a Corvette with chrome covers which is pretty well stock, mine has the angle at PB but does not have the small crease that you can see in the second picture at the far end. Also my Vette has plug wire brackets and temp wire bracket.

They are corvette covers. The corvette had a special chrome box and diff looms for the wires. What is the part number for the intake? If it is aluminum there will be a winters foundry mark on the front. Looks like a big W. Is it oval port or square? If oval could be a 390hp 427. If so that intake is worth big bucks as it is probably the rarest one.

They may be older (pre-Chinese) after-market. The Corvette 396/425's were orange and I think the full size car 425's were too (though someone may have had them chromed after removing the brackets). While I'm no expert on valve covers, I think all O.E covers had brackets and the slant was only on the driver's side cover.
