I'm a bit in the stiff here fellas, I'm supposed to show the car to the Norwegian DMW on the 21'st and they told me to gather some information about the car, including the year my chevelle was first registrated in the us??
Now, I tried to do a VIN search, but the number I punch in is apparently not the VIN(?)
I only got the stamped plate in the engine bay and the framenumber on the right hand side to referr to:(
Any tips/leads/hints/devine interventiones?

The vin plate should be inside the drivers door opening. If the vin is gone, depending on year, a partial vin could be stamped on the engine pad (if original engine) and on the rear upper frame.

Short of that, there aren't many options that I'm aware of.

Post the information on the "Cowl tag", the one on the firewall. It will show the production month and week. Later VINs are located on top of the dash at the windshield base on driver's side.

If all they want is the year, it'd be either 1969 or 1970 depending on when the car was built. These places that do VIN searches (like Carfax) only go back to something like 1987 when the VIN went from a 13-alphanumeric sequence to the current 17 so there's no help there. The stamped plate in the engine compartment (trim tag, cowl tag, Fisher Body plate) has nothing to do the VIN and is not a legal means of identifying a car. Trying to find the history of a 37 year old car is next to impossible. I would guess they need to know the car has never been reported stolen or has ever been reported as salvaged. I'm not aware of any government database of VINs for such reports. If the DMW won't accept a bill-of-sale or recent U.S. registration receipt from a previous owner, you may be out of luck.

Thank's for all your help:thumbsup:
I don't have the VIN plate on the driverdoor, only the Fisher plate Dale mentioned.
I'll try to see if the DMW guys got something between the ears and understand my problem which was commented in this tread: it's a 37year old car for crying out loud!
Come monday 21'st, 0900 in the morning, I'll be biting nails and kicking stones outside the test hall....
Wish me good luck:yes:

Did you look through the windshield? At the bottom of the windshield, on top of the dash, about 30 CM from the side of the windshield.

Yes I did, and this is the same number that is stamped in the frame. After talking to some other Norwegian Amcar owners, I got the clear message of taking it easy, 'cause as it's replied during this tread, you can only check bak to -87 and quote"If they don't get it, I'll personally show them this fact with a baseball bat" unqoute:D
Now I'm sitting here, have just gotten in from the garage after mounting the p-breake wire, front suspention, rear axel and all parts with new bushings. I've sunk two beers and are looking at a 12 year old Balvenie wiskey who's about to bleed me a glass ot two, I think I deserve it(?)
:beers:
