The C-396 intake was developed in the 60's...take a close look at the C-396 and if you change the name it looks nearly like the regular Performer....It also has the same RPM range....IE..The current Performer is basically an old C-396...The newer RPM manifolds are much newer up to date designs.

i currently run 1 on a 454. although they were made in the 60's and 70's, i emailed edelbrock a couple of years ago asking if they thought a performer rpm would make a difference in performance. they replied that it was an oval port copy of the factory gm hi rise and i would likely feel no difference in stepping up to the rpm. most of the performers have the peanut port configuration and the C-396 has the large oval. if you can get it for a steal I would give it a shot. otherwise I would use the rpm. mike

I have both an RPM and a C396 and when you compare them side by side the RPM plenium looks alot bigger. I had the C396 on a 396 motor and was happy with it. When I moved up to my 454 I bought the RPM and am sorry to say never did a compare. I would suggest keeping the C396 if your combo is on the mild side and think about the RPM if you are running a more radical combo.

i have a couple of magazine articles from the late 60's and early 70's of oval port build ups. there was a kit that was developed by wayne jesel and manly valvetrain company. they took oval port motors and kept the stock valve sizes but milled the heads to get close to a true 10-1 compression motors. run a good size solid cam with the C-396 intake and holley 750 carb. the cars ran in the mid 11's with the solid valvetrain packages and headers. these guys were actively campaigning these cars. if you have it I would give it a shot. but remember that it is 30 year old technology. good luck mike

I've been running a C396 intake[w/215's] on the '67 since '88 and like it.I never compared it to anything else though.

It works much better than a Performer. I have tried both but not the RPM. If you can find one I would use it.
