I am getting close to putting my pure street 67SS on the road and was wondering what the general ET range may be with the following combo:

67SS Chevelle (3750 lbs.)
408 c.i.
GM 702 Closed iron ovals (light bowl cleanup)
Standard Valves (3-angle valve job)
9.7 CR (7.8 DCR)
New 750 CFM Stock Qjet
Edelbrock RPM Intake (Dual Plane)
HEI Distributor
Balanced Rotating Assembly

Crane Powermax Hyd. Cam
221/230 @ .50, .529/.525 lift
114 LSA

Hedman Headers (1 3/4")
2 1/2" exhaust

B&M 2400 Converter
TH400 w/shift kit
12-bolt Posi with 3.31 gears
BFG Street Radials (8" width)

I'm hoping for at least 13.80's. Does this sound about right?

Thanks, Charles

i'll give you a combo i ran that was good enough for 13.60's (typical 13.60 to 13.80's depend on traction)

396 .060 over
closed chambered heads, ported, cleaned up all the flashing in the runners, bowl work on the short turn radiuas, 2.06/1.72 valves
8.8 to 1 compression
284 crane cam
summit cheap headers
eddy dual plan
750 holley
2500 stall th350
3.70 gears
3600 lbs
thru the mufflers,on street tires,1.90's to 2.00 60 ft times, 98-99 mph

it would be safe to say your in the 13.80's but even dont be surprised on the first outing to the track that you run mid to low 14's.

be patient with the tunning and i can see you meeting your goal and passing it . timming needs to be really dialed in. 18 initial and 36 to 38 total is a good starting point. carb will have to be jetted after timing is dialed in. learn the shift points and launching and your there.

even on my latest 396 (after i had sorted out my hard parts swaps)just with timming and jetting i have went from 102 mph trap speeds to almost 106 (105.93 being best and pretty consistent)

my project started off as a daily driver that i want it to turn out 13.80's at 102 mph with 2.41 gears with a weight of 4000 lbs. and be able to drive across country at low rpms running a stock looking 396 motor.

my first outing with ride and my rebuilt motor and gears was a very bad time of 15.50's at 92 mph

after some rethinking of what i needed to do i changed several cams, intakes, played with compression with different heads, changed stalls i found out my original idea to rely on nothing but pure torque to get my car to move was wrong.

the 2.41 gears made it tougher for the motor to stay out of preignition then what i thought.

so i moved the compression up to 10.5, put in a 233/239 @ .050 cam, rpm intake,750 carb, 2500 stall and changed the rear gears to 2.73 to match my hp curve for crossing the finish line in second gear.

after all this i droped my e.t. to 14.06 at 102 mph. since then i have tuned on the carb and timming once again and played with the shift points to find myself at 13.60's at 105 plus mph.

once again i'm heading to the track to tune some more and push the car to 106 + mph and see if i can improve on the e.t.s to about 13.50's

i found it to be more of a challenge trying to push a heavy car with suck-o gears. been quit a learning experiance.

If my sons mild 355 can run 13.40's w/3.50 gears since he moved it to a 82 Cutlass, I'm sure you can top that.

Shoot for 12s. Your a little weak in the converter area, so your 60's will be the only prevention of 12s. I think you would expect 103+MPH, and don't stop till you get to 105mph. Then you can say your car is "as fast as a C5 corvette". smile.gif
