I'm trying to track down the flat head phillips screws that attach the tailgate strikers the the body. There are three 5/16 x 18 flatheads on each side, but the head size is smaller than a standard flathead. I've checked Year One, OPGI, The El Camino Store, Ground Up and NPD. Any ideas?

Ace Hardware? They might have them. They have tons of small screws, even in stainless.

Try Sloan's 760-949-6724. They had some oddball used parts that I needed.

Are you SURE they are 5/16x18

some are 5/16 x 24

Here is something you can do if they are fine thread-----locate a 58-64 chevy,
once that is done, remove the stricker screws from the donor car.
They should be the same.
I can say the screws are the same on my 59 Elky----doors and gate.

As I am new into the Chevelle arena---can't be too sure, but it has appeared to me that the same striker was used thru 72.----Dunno after that.

I did measure them and they are 5/16-18. I'm going to check McMaster-Carr next. The big problem is these have a unusually small head - .45" wide instead of typical .56" or so.

You can grind the head down to a smaller diameter. You may have to also grind down the face so when it is mounted and tight in the threads for the head to sit flush with the striker casting. You will have to polish the head.

I replaced the phillips head screw with the ones that use and allen wrench. Will be easyer to take out in the future.

I did that very thing. They came out great! I'll post some pics later.
