I need to change the bracket on the side of my air cooled powerglide(the one the shifter linkage hooks to )to put the style of bracket on that other powerglides have. I looked and I cant see anyway of getting it off. I need to put the type on that has the rod that sticks out, the one thats on it has flat metal bent in a U shape. Has anyone done this before? I dont know what year the transmission is, only that it is a air cooled powerglide. It has about 5 or 6 three inch holes in the bellhousing to allow the air to circulate. Thanks

you have to drop the pan.remove the 2 bolts and a metal guide plate that covers the linkage inside. then loosen 2 allen head bolts or 12 pt.1/4 bolts and slide the kickdown out first and then the shifter arm. they should only spline back in 1 way. greg
