hi everyone, i just got my first chevelle, its a 1970 chevelle. it has a 307 and a 350 tran. it is the original motor and all (i checked the numbers) anyway it needs alot of work and i have only started this project, but i need to decided where im gonna go with it. any sugestions? i dont want a drag car. but i do want it to be fast. should i stay with the 307? swap? bore it out? i feel like i should keep the original motor in it. the guy that had it before me had started to do the whole ss clone (paint and ss badges) thing but i dont think that is what i want to do either. the interior is mint so i dont have to worrie about that and the body and frame have already had most of the hard stuff done (at least from what i can tell... who knows what is hideing). so my main progect is the muscle. so any sugestions and advice you all have would really help me out. <br>http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e195/baabeaatron/P4290230.jpg

looks like you got a pretty good looking car.If I were you I would pull the original engine and trans and put in a big block and a four speed and make it look all original,IMO the car will be worth more with a big block than with the original engine, being that its a 307.You could probably get a big block and get it rebuilt for not much more money than it would cost you to rebuild the 307.

Put the 307 in the garage, NEVER get rid of it. Go with something that will scare you a bit. My 307 is in the garage, put in a 400, 60 over, 280d 480l cam, alum intake, 2.02 1.60 heads, new radiator, water pump etc. and it is good and scary. The matching num. 307 may stay in the garage forever, but it will go with the car if it ever goes.

I agree with Tom. Store the original engine and trans. Then drop in a 454.

Personally, I would replace the 307 with a higher horse powered small block....383 cubes would work great. Maybe not as fast as a big block but you will save money by not having to change out the radiator, front coils, going to a larger fuel line, stronger transmission & rear end, and get better gas milage at the same time.
