: Official All Chevy Drags and car show roll call
loader1 May 13th, 07, 1:40 PM I know I keep mentioning it but this is a really fun day. Whether you race, show, race/show or just spectate, there is a lot going on all day. There will be an abundance of very nice chevelles there to check out and maybe apply some ideas to something you want to do to your car.
If you would like to try your hand at racing 1/4 mile, here's your chance. If you've never bracket raced before, I'd be happy to help anyone who needs it with figuring out what can be gleaned from your timeslips in preparation for dialing. And I'm a pretty good hand in the pit.
So who's interested?
gotago May 13th, 07, 1:57 PM I think I'm going to try it, although I don't know which I will do. If I race, I gotta get a trailer. If I just show or spectate I'll drive the car. Hell I'd just get eliminated first round anyway but then the show thing would be easy!!
I have to rejet my carb anyway and that may be the place to dial it in. Hope to talk to you more about it on the 20th.
kettbo May 13th, 07, 2:14 PM loader1,
Again, the focus of my job and prosperity is the ROTC Summer Camp. This event will be will be play it by ear.
Need you to put all the details on this event into this thread for those not yet aware....it is on another conversation you had with gotago.
I know BREMERTON, just not sure of the date...
flink69SS May 13th, 07, 2:31 PM Mike- When and where again???
Dave May 13th, 07, 2:36 PM Mike- When and where again???
Ditto, I'd like to at least come to watch.
gotago May 13th, 07, 3:16 PM 35 gets the driver and car in for the day. 10 addmission for spectators. Friday afternoons are tnt, gates open at 3pm. Saturday gates open at 8am and they start calling for the cars between 9-10. Yes, you pay at the gate, pull in and go through tech, or find a pit space and return for tech.
Usually for the Chevy Drags you will get 3 time runs before having to dial for eliminations. Hey George, I've seen 18 second cars take home the money in sportsman more than once. It's all about consistency!
Remember that for Chevy day there is a car show. So if any of you didn't want to race, just pay 10 and park for the show and watch the racing. If you really want to be busy...show and race!
From Mike in the other post. The TnT I think is on the first and the show is the 2d of June. Mike, did I get that right?
loader1 May 13th, 07, 5:58 PM Thanks for putting that up there again Mark. And yes you got it right.
June 1 TnT gates open at 3 PM. Guaranteed you'll get in as many passes as you can stand at this one.
June 2 All chevy drags and car show. Now on this I'm pretty sure that the $10 admission gets your car in the show if that's all you're going to do. The car show keeps getting bigger each year, last year there were a LOT of cars. Gates open at 0800
I always take a three day weekend for this one. Wife and I stay at the Days Inn in Port Orchard. Just mention that you are in for the races and you get a discount.
gotago May 13th, 07, 6:03 PM How picky are they with tech? I don't have open lug nuts nor drive shaft loop nor a helmet. I don't have sticky tires either. I just don't want to get there and have them tell me I can't run, but I can respect the safety intent.
loader1 May 13th, 07, 8:08 PM www.bremertonraceway.com (http://www.bremertonraceway.com) has most of the info under rules/tech. Battery hold down and coolant catchcan. Quicker than 13.99 needs safety loop, or any car with slicks or drag radials. The helmet thing is a little sketchy. I know I've seen cars in the sportsman bracket have drivers in hardtop cars with no helmet on. Must be something to do with ET.
FRYNTYR May 13th, 07, 9:49 PM Maybe I'll take the Welfare Nova. I don't have anything planned for that weekend so if I don't have to work, I'll make the trip.
gotago May 14th, 07, 12:27 AM Thanks Mike, I seriously doubt my car will be faster than mid to low 14s. The last time I ran it I couldn't get past mid 15s. That was when the car had stock exhaust and a really slopply shifter and those little tires. If its faster than 13.99, first I'll pass out and then scrounge up a drive shaft loop.

George, Maybe its time for the grudge match of ours eh? You got the new gears in, just put a batt hold down and catch can and lets go. Its pretty obvious you dont need a roll cage! :boring: :p I've never been to the drags so would be fun. Ive already got the catch can from when I did my rad swap. I think I am good to go, just no helmet. So do I need a helmet or not? I understand if your too scared George, I know I got ya beat. ;)
FRYNTYR May 24th, 07, 2:03 AM I love a good grudge match!

Brett,
Big words ya young whipper-snapper. For the guy who has never run an engine north of 5500 rpm, big words indeed. You may have the 5-spd and 3.73s, serious advantages in your favor vs my th350 and 3.42s, but I accept your challenge. I'm not even considering you a serious threat! :p I hope your Elky has enough nutz to run me down as you'll be getting a good look at my bumper coming off the line!:waving:
I can't commit to this specific event and time due to certain work interference but I'll work my car upgrades toward this end. Later this year? Game ON! :beers: This also helps me prepare for Ben when I move on up to BBC country. I'll just have to clip your wings along the way!
I have 350 cubes, std bore, dished slugs, 58cc 305 4v heads that are clearanced, throated, and chambers relieved for 2.02/1.60 valves. Guess the chambers are about 60cc after the relieving for the larger valves. Leaves me with 9.8:1 CR. There is a street performance cam present from what I and others hear. Unknown specs. Sounds like a 327/350 horse cam. Performer Intake, 600 Holley, HEI, junk headers and new 2.5" ext.
For the life of me, all I can remember from under your hood was non-power brakes, the nice radiator. I hope you are packing more than your purse when ya show up at the knife-fight!:boxing:
FourEightyNine May 24th, 07, 3:17 AM loader, I dont think im gona be able to make it out that saturday. I am trying to get my trans swap, and exhaust swap done by june 1st for the TNT, shooting for 11's. I will be out there on Sunday also.
FRYNTYR May 24th, 07, 4:45 AM I'll have the 72 Heavy Chevy ready..... =)[
=_
I see slicks on the back with a BB under the hood. What's she run'n for times? Nice ride.
loader1 May 24th, 07, 9:50 AM Brian,
Wish you could make it for sat. but I'll still be there sunday, so I'll find you and say hi. Good luck at getting all that done in time.
Bryan, see you there. Nice car, I'm sure I've seen you there.
Darryl, hope see you and the Nova there. Would've liked to talk with you last Sunday, but you were being pummeled the whole time by George and Brett:p .

Sounds like fun George. You probably will have me off the line. I have no idea who would win or whats inside my engine. I have an intake, 600 cfm carb, performance cam of some sort, cheapie headers, 2.5" exhaust w/ flow 40's, HEI, MSD wires, and a chrome air cleaner :) . We are probably fairly even. Its not like we are putting money on it, just for fun. Maybe we should put our pink slips on it! ;) Its going to take me a while to get used to the tree probably. I will have to try it with open headers and exhaust.

Hey! Darryl's my personal mechanic, engine building, and idol. Back off! :D
kettbo May 24th, 07, 5:52 PM loader1,
Darryl was pretty much pummelled by everyone. Frank, Mark, Brett, Me, etc.
I actually let him have a few moments with his son until he suggested we depart the show to do the gear swap. I do wihwe would have had better weather, I'd have liked a ride in your 66.
Brett,
Sounds like the 350 engines are pretty close (both pretty sorry engines just DYING to be replaced by BBC). Your 5-spd and 3.73 will do ya good compared to my th350 and 3.42s. I'm pretty much counting on you bungling the all-important launch.....just wait for the light to turn green (heh, heh). Just for fun is about all these mild 350s can do in these big heavy Elkys.
72_Heavy_Chevy,
More info about your sweet ride!
gotago May 24th, 07, 6:00 PM George, Its pretty obvious you dont need a roll cage! :boring:
I understand if your too scared George, I know I got ya beat. ;)
Off the top rope:thumbsup: That's some stones right there!!
I hope all of the pro gearheads are there, I know there's more stuff left in my car but its at the limit of my experience. With the track there, and the experience there, and all the tools there, I was hoping to pick up a few ponies with some pro tuning tips. I just hope I get away without breaking anything.
kettbo May 24th, 07, 6:12 PM Mark,
That kid Brett is something else!!!!!! He's just twisting the lion's tail.
I was down your way at lunch, called you 1315, L/msg. Guess you were out. Those 3.42 were screaming for some testing. Huge difference in the whole attitude of the car. Also wanted to talk about your polishing device. Had slugs and conrods for show and tell.

Ah, George knows I'm all talk. :p
RAMBO May 24th, 07, 7:07 PM Man, I wish I could get next Friday off to go racing with you guys...
I have tomorrow and Tuesday off- but will be mostly doing household chores & starting my overdue bathroom tub surround tile project.
Have fun! I expect to see lots of pics here!!!!

Yeah, was down in the ops center doing some of that coordinatin' stuff. Been running around all day. and now that everyone except the boss is gone, I'm gonna try and sneak out.
I'll try and bring in some polish and a pad and the maching next week and we can do some testing on your car to see if it will bring it back.
FYI, I didn't get the message, did you call LL or cell?
kettbo May 24th, 07, 8:08 PM Twenty years of being on Uncle Sam's schedule; late nights, early mornings, being on-call, alerts, deployments.....Actually Brett, I really want to get out there and enjoy life more. I've kept fairly current on the gearhead stuff but you can't get enough gearhead stuff......ever.....it is a sickness....
Even after the long drive SUN, MON morning I was anxious to drive the Elky.
I know you're kidding
GHK
loader1 May 25th, 07, 12:42 AM Hey George,
Wish I'd have known, I was bored after the 2 hr. mark. I'd have gladly taken you out for a spin. 'Course all we'd have done is spin.........but we'd have made a helluva lot of noise!:D
PS....by the way dammit its a 67 and oh loved your 72;)
FRYNTYR May 25th, 07, 12:56 AM I'm hoping I can still make next weekend at Bremerton. Got the news they are moving me to another crew that is turmoil to have me try and straighten it out.
The crew got wind I am coming and are excited so that makes me feel good. Their present manager isn't well liked and they have problems working efficiently for him. I think they'll work for me very well.
Anyways, there is a major roadblock on some vendor damaged parts that has already put them 2 days behind and will not have the replacements until Tuesday. Recovery plan shows 7 days a week for two weeks. So I'm getting thrown into a hornet's nest. Hopefully I can get someome to cover next Saturday so I can still race.

I too was ready to go do something after a couple hours. That was my first time participating in a car show so The lack of warming up tires into a huge cloug of smoke was difficult for me. I was hoping the weather was dry for our trip to my house afterwords because I intended to seal some of the asphalt close to my house.
I look forward to the chance to be somewhere to FRY some TYR with you guys.
kettbo May 25th, 07, 1:39 AM loader1,
A Thousand apologies.....yes you have a 67. I knew that....I simply screwed-up.
I'm knocking out push-ups now until you tell me to recover....
Hope you're still reading T-C tonight so my arms don't get worn out.
Guess I shoulda connected the 396 4spd to your 396 4-spd better...
Would have been kinda/sorta deja vu to ride in your machine, re-live some of my early gearhead moments
Sorry show with all the rain. Way more cars last year. Think the should host a burnout-contest or something... Also, the fact we awoke at 4-430 am didn't help. Wet road meant no interest in driving....
Dennis down the street pulled-up in front of my place...hazed his mondo tires on his 79 Elky...pretty easy w/454 and 5-spd.... Stuff we shoulda-coulda been doin'
Do you like my new signature block?
loader1 May 25th, 07, 9:27 AM ON YOUR FEET George,
Been a good night? Geez, pushups? I wasn't that upset.
Hey, the sig's good, but if you can't take that kid with those, I have a set of 3.73's and a set of richmond pro 4.56s for a 3 series carrier.
I can see it now. The kid :D takes ya and all of us old guys are under your car trying to get a gear swap done between rounds. I have an awsome tool for crushing the sleeve under the car and I know we'd have enough size present to git r done.
Brettd85 May 25th, 07, 1:15 PM I can see it now. The kid :D takes ya
I can see it now too! :D
gotago May 25th, 07, 1:15 PM ON YOUR FEET George,
He can't, he passed out after 10 reps. Too much CAV;)
Hey Frank, don't forget to bring the TC Banner!! Now you have to come to the races:yes:
Well today I finally have time to clean the car from last weekend. I agree, stayed too long. There were some cool parts though like meeting everyone, watching every head turn (including mine) when Darryl pulled in, finally eating a good breakfast with good company. Now there's 2 grudge matches to watch, all involving Elkys. Life is good.
kettbo May 25th, 07, 3:18 PM Mark,
Never, never, never less than 60 push-ups scored on the APFT.
In the 80s until I hit 40....
Loader1,
IF, IF, IF for some reason the kid should stomp me in the 350 Meeno Championship, I'd not swap gears.... Simpler to see Darryl for a spare NOS fitting. I did think (for about 30 seconds) about a cam swap on the 350. Just figured this would be a waste of my limited resources....
Was fine-tuning last PM, I now have this 350 of mine idling at between 18 and 18.5" of vacuum. Quite a bit of vacuum to something that really sounds like it has something like a 327/350 horse cam in it. You probably didn't even hear my car above the noise your car produces.
Loader1 and Gotago,
A guy I know in Spanaway has 2x 70 SS Chevelles. Am hoping he invites me to his "whole acre of pals with Chevelles and Elkys" BBQ this summer. Will arrange for your presence there..... Remember that butternut Chevelle? A local guy Bobby has one nicer than that....69 SS 396. Gotta get him motivated.
flink69SS May 26th, 07, 1:07 PM If I can't make it down with the banner, is there anyone going that could meet up in Everett and bring it down??? Thanks.
gotago May 27th, 07, 1:10 AM TTT. Whose going? Wife suggested I stay over in Bremerton, I'm thinking about it but don't know. Possible beer fest in the making:D Depends how much I have to do that next week.
Well fellas, who's up for testing and tuning and racing the next day? I know Mike will be there.
FRYNTYR May 29th, 07, 1:01 PM Looks like the weather is going to be great this week and this weekend. Perfect for the drags on Saturday.
My goal now is to work out something so i can run Saturday. It's not looking good at work. The Welfare Nova is begging to get out and blaze down some rubber.
Weekend went good except Sunday's all day rain delay where I was at. Took the family camping/quad riding and had a blast. My oldest son and I spent the weekend working on clearing one of thirty jumps on this corse that only one person had cleared,,,,Chris made it on Saturday, It took me until Monday morning to grow big enough B&%LS to hit it hard enough and clear it too. Very sore now though. Wicked, wicked air. I'm getting too old for this stuff!
Hope you all had a great weekend as well. Would have liked to hook up with you guys at Colby but one must do the all family thing here and there for damage control to allow more guy stuff later.
I'll keep you up to date on if i'll be able to make it Saturday.
FRYNTYR May 29th, 07, 10:23 PM Well, it looks like I have somebody to cover me for Saturday at work so I'll get on preppping the Nova for Saturday. Sweet.
loader1 May 29th, 07, 11:05 PM Darryl,
That's awsome! Anyone else going to make it? Hey Frank are you going to come down?
Brettd85 May 29th, 07, 11:49 PM So you guys are planning Bremerton on Saturday then? I probably will just pay the $10 and watch everyone. For the times that I would be running I dont think it is worth $35.
Mike/Loader, think you could bring those springs down on Saturday if you can find them?
flink69SS May 30th, 07, 12:39 AM Darryl,
That's awsome! Anyone else going to make it? Hey Frank are you going to come down?
Unfortunately we had a sick family member who passed on Memorial Day. That was the reason I thought I wasn't going to be bringing down the banner.
I would have loved it. I will see you guys next go around.
loader1 May 30th, 07, 2:57 AM Sorry to hear that Frank. It would have been great to see you again.
Brett, I'm lookin', hope I didn't file them. But there's one more place that I was putting things that I removed. I'll definitely bring them with if I find them. You mean't park it in the show and watch didn't you? Heck, you might win a trophy!
gotago May 30th, 07, 11:45 AM Frank, sorry to hear of your bad news. I hope everything is as good as it can be under the circumstances.
Mike, I pick up the trailer tomorrow. Barring any natural or man-made disasters, I'll be there sometime on FRI.

loader1 Jun 4th, 07, 2:19 AM Yea, it was a great one! My son took a couple of good pics of your car. I'll have them up as soon as I can figure out how to get them off the disc. It'll be sometime tomorrow night. Congrats on the trophy!
